One of my favorite parts of being an Oregon estate specialist is the history hiding in plain sight.

In 12 years of hosting estate sales, I’ve never come across one of these.

At first glance, it looked like an unusual cast iron piece. Then we found the note explaining it was an antique pen and stamp holder from the Lowenson clothing store in Oak Park, Chicago. It was later displayed on Minnie Lowenson’s library table until her death in 1954.

That’s what makes estate sales so special. Every item has a story—you just have to be curious enough to find it.
