We offer a full range of outdoor clothing, including: Patagonia, Marmot, Prana, The North Face and many more. We also sell and service a wide range of outdoor hard gear like tents, sleeping bags, stoves, backcountry skis and accessories, backpacks, etc. Our staff gets out there and they are happy to help you find the best guidebooks for the area and the best adventures in the area. We are so stoked to introduce you to Justin Walker, our new General Manager!

If you’ve spent time on the trails, roads, or slopes around Salida, you’ve probably crossed paths with him. Between trail runs, bike rides, and ski days at Monarch, Justin has built his life around getting outside. He coaches middle school cross country, helps out with the high school track team, and has spent years organizing local events and bringing this community together, on and off the trail.

Justin gets what SMS has always meant to this town, and he doesn’t take that lightly. He’s excited to be here, and honestly, it shows. Ask anyone who’s talked to him for five minutes.

Next time you’re in the shop, be sure to say hi. Welcome to the team, Justin!

The trails around Salida are not exactly gentle. 🏔️

Loose dirt, rocky descents, long climbs, hot miles, and the occasional “this got technical fast.”

Alli bought the $300 trail shoes she swore she didn’t need.

Then her rebuilt ankle had opinions. 👟🦴

After a tib/fib break, some new metal, and a slow return to trail, SMS staff member Alli Perry tried the Speedland RX:LDVL.

Turns out, good gear isn’t just for pros. Sometimes it’s for the rest of us trying to make the fun stuff hurt less.

Meet Keagen.

Salida born and the kind of person who looks at one free day and asks how many adventures can fit inside it. His ideal day is a “grind” in the best way: backcountry laps, a ride, a float, a hike, maybe climbing, maybe all of the above if the timing works.

He grew up around this shop, has spent most of his life adventuring in these mountains, trails, and rivers, and brings the kind of local knowledge you only get from actually doing the thing.

That means when Keagen points you toward a piece of gear, a route, or a way to spend the day outside, there’s a good chance he’s tested some version of it himself.

Ask him what to do outside around Salida, but maybe clear your schedule first. 🏔️

And he’s off! Everyone go wish PHOTOGRAPHER | TRAIL & RUN BUYER luck as he competes in The High Lonesome 100 !

He ran Hi-Lo in 2025 and this year he’s taking it on again! 100 miles with 23,300 feet of gain over 5 alpine passes through the Sawatch Range.

Let’s go Mahting! We’re rooting for ya!
