Wanna go bikepacking? Us too! How does next weekend sound?

Our FREE* guided bikepacking overnighter is open for public registration! Next Saturday, June 6th, our shuttle will leave the shop and take us up to Buena Vista. We’ll ride the Buena Vista to Salida/Aspen Ridge Overnighter route as a group, camp together, and finish in Salida on Sunday morning.

Lots of snacks will be eaten, breaks will be taken, scenery and wildlife observed and enjoyed. This route and our pace is perfect for a first time overnighter, and the route is gravel bike and hard tail friendly. No drop, no racing, no egos, just having fun on bikes. You might have to hike a bike but…you know what they say.

Got questions? Hit us up! Wanna come with? Head to tinyurl.com/abbikepacking or give us a call to sign up!

*we TECHNICALLY have to charge $1 because our reservation system got upset about it being free. We’re way better at bikes than computers. We promise you’ll get at least $1 worth of candy as compensation.

Oh yeah, and we’ve got new hats. Come grab one!

Hate to be the bearers of bad news, but Crest shuttles won’t be opening for Memorial Day weekend. A few inches of fresh snow fell this week, and while that may melt quickly, there are still bigger, older drifts that aren’t going anywhere fast.

Fallen trees are also a pretty big concern when it comes to trails opening – South Fooses may still have some, and we currently don’t have a status on Greens or the CT between Monarch and Marshall Pass.

In other words, we know you wanna get up there bad bad - we do too - but it just ain’t quite there yet. We’ll still likely see a much earlier Crest season than usual, so keep being patient!

If you’re looking for higher elevation riding, head out to Silver Creek, Rainbow, or Starvation from Marshall Pass (the gate is open!), Shirley Site, or 285. Segment 14 of the CT is also riding great.

PIVOT DEMO JUNE 13th!

Our friends at Pivot will be back with the demo truck on Saturday, June 13th! They’ll have all of the current Pivot lineup, including the new Mach 4 SL and Shuttle AMPD. There are two demo windows to choose from: 9am and 1pm.

We highly recommend going for that 9am slot if you’re looking for an e-bike, because there’s no guarantee that e-bikes will be fully charged in time for the 1pm slot.

Reserve your bike ahead of time at pivotcycles.com/en-us/demo-tour/absolute-bikes-salida. Reservations close on Friday, June 12th.

Act fast – the newest bikes are always in high demand! Got questions? Give us a shout.

Reminder: Bikepacking 101 is next Wednesday, May 13th at 6:30pm! Whether you’ve been bikepacking a few times or are just bikepacking curious, we’d love to share the stoke and help get you out the door for a trip.

We’ll cover many of the basics like choosing a bike (or making your current bike work!), picking bags/racks, planning routes, managing food and water, and more. We’ll have a ton of time for questions and are happy to answer anything you’ve got – no matter how small.

And, the folks who come to the class will get first dibs on our group overnighter next month!

Class and overnighter are both FREE so grab a buddy and come on down.

Moody days make for great trail conditions!

We’ve gotten some precipitation in town and most certainly up high. Our sandy soil loves the damp, so these are the kind of days to bundle up, grab a rain shell, and get after it. We expect the trails to be in good shape this weekend but feel free to call the shop and check in for updates. 🌧️

Other areas nearby (like ) are at different elevation and may have different conditions, so be sure to check with the local groups before you head out. And remember to follow good trail etiquette: ride through puddles, turn back if you’re leaving deep tracks, and be kind to your fellow trail users.

Whether or not you sing “hoa hoa hoa” while you ride is up to you, sparkly vampire sightings not guaranteed.

If you saw our newsletter note about a Thule event this weekend…no you didn’t.

In all seriousness, it’s been rescheduled to July and it’s going to be way cooler now. Trust us.

Stay tuned for details on that one. And in the meantime, go ride your bike!
