Happy International Cat Day!

🐱It's International Cat Day and Leo season ♌️ , so we HAVE to celebrate California's original wild feline: the bobcat.

Bobcats (Lynx rufus) live throughout California's state parks, from chaparral hillsides to desert washes. You can spot one by its tufted ears, spotted coat, and short, "bobbed" tail about twice the size of a housecat, but built for hunting instead of napping on the couch.

These quiet, solitary hunters help keep rodent populations in check, which makes them a genuinely important part of a healthy park ecosystem. If you're lucky enough to see one on the trail, keep your distance and enjoy the moment, bobcats are shy by nature and would rather avoid you than approach.
