St Luke Heritage Gardens This page, is dedicated to the restoration of ST Luke African American Methodist Episcopal AME Church in Salisbury, Missouri.

A 1860s church is buried under us, our sister church is in Glasgow Missouri and we sprung the 2nd baptist in Salisbury. Welcome to St Luke Heritage Gardens, we are a property consisted of St Luke AME church and its parsonage, both built in the Victorian era 1890s. St Luke sits ontop of a Union Church and the parsonage is built with the material left from Union Church. A Union church was a mix of r

eligions that worshiped under one roof, it was established on the estate of one of the first settlers name Sergeant Samual Williams which sat in Buffalo Lick Township around 1812. We are all that is left of his estate, better known as the slave quarters. We also spawned the Second Baptist church in Salisbury, and our Sister church was Campbell Chapel in Glasgow as well. Our project and our history take years to restore, but since 2016 we've been slowly building back what was once rotting away. I've been sort of neglecting plants, sort of just die already lol but I still water them...this one went nuts in a windo...

I've been sort of neglecting plants, sort of just die already lol but I still water them...this one went nuts in a window for a few years.

So I put the monstera/swiss cheese plant/split leaf philodendron into a larger pot and gave it a new stick...got 10ft ceilings in here, should be good for a few more years. Will take a bit for it to re face its leaves to where it wants them...so looks kinda depressed lol

Can't put up my laundry room cabinets, till the walls are done...can't put a floor down until the trim is done...So onto...

So onto another pile of trim to restore. The plan pieces are the original to the parsonage/house and the fancy trim is salvage from a home around the corner.

You can see one of the call it? a rosette block that I restored, it is the same trim that I used in the bathroom.

The Rudbeckia aka Black Eye'd Susan's patch by the mail box is in full bloom now.

These just started off as two small plants years ago and for YEARS I've been trying to make them spread like the Denver Daisy's but it's been HARD!

I finally got one good size plant that popped up on the left side corner of the church. I've failed all the time I've planted seeds to get them to spread all the way down the left side of the church.

I've also not gotten lucky to get any to sprout in front of the parsonage. Literally this is the only place they want to grow.

I did get one or two plants to grow in the court yard garden, no idea? how they got there but they did.

That is why after the daisy's were picked I got upset, its not so easy to just "plant more seeds"...the flower's seem to have the area's where they want to grow and I can't make them grow anywhere else.

Well the 12ft sunflower 🌻 hasn't blew over and is now blooming way up there..

While I was outside scattering seeds for next season in hopes of getting some more Denver Daises to sprout, I received an apology for picking the flowers. It was very nice that they came forward on their own and apologized for picking the flowers. I received some seed packets for next year for some new flowers. Which was very nice. I will look forward to planting the California poppies next year as they are a wildflower that I really miss and I love Nasturtiums as they are a great edible flower.

I stated that I do not mind picking some flowers but to just ask me first, as I have areas that I can pick from and areas that I am trying to grow/allow to spread.

Remember if you come by the property, that everything that is growing is for everyone's enjoyment. And sometimes it may look chaotic, but I grow a lot of the garden as a pollinator garden for insects and birds. This is why I am so picky on picking flowers.

I am always happy to share flowers, seeds, plant starts etc with anyone. Just ask please ask me first and if I have anything I can share I will for sure share part of the garden with you. I can also help you make an arrangement for a loved one, if you are in need and this goes for the kids as well. I usually always have something blooming and a vase or mason jar hanging around

I was letting this plant grow, in order to have them spread this year...now? that is no longer possible...

IF!! You would have just asked me for flowers; I could have taken you into the back garden and picked you some from the large patch I have there...

I do? have a camera right on this area and I SHOULD post the video...but I won't....I just wanted to let people know, that whom ever picked these....have now ruined the chance of them spreading on the side of the church and making a large display of flowers next year...
