More on etiquette, this isnt so we'll known or thought of when booking a guide so I figured id point some things out.

When you want to hire a guide some basic questions you should have answers for are as follows.

What is your goal? Meaning what species are you targeting or is this just a trip to catch whatever is around.

How many in the group? I like to keep it small to keep things more on an individuals needs and questions, large groups makes it hard to give everyone answers to questions and one on one tutorials.

Timeframe, dont plan on booking a guide last minute, I get this a lot. Ill get a message asking if im free tomorrow and its already 10pm. A good guide is usually booked weeks in advance. When I book I will sometimes keep the following day open as well as a weather backup. (Not always possible).

When booking a guide some require a deposit. Usually its non refundable if you dont cancel within a reasonable amount of time, say a day in advance at minimum. (Some exceptions to this rule) if they dont require a deposit and pull a no call no show you can be sure you'll be blacklisted.
It costs the guide money to purchase bait, gas, rigs and time preparing everything. All things that they cant get back.

Tips- not required unless specified as some guides have team mates that only earn off tips. Dont forget to ask.

Ask what's included, what is needed to bring etc. Most guides cover gear, tackle and bait, they may offer bug spray or beverages at an extra charge.
Also ask if its ok to bring alcohol, not all guides allow it.

Ask times (obviously) and how long are trips. Some only offer 4 hour or 8 hour trips. Is it daytime or night? Things like this. I personally dont have time limits we go as long as you want. But im rare in that aspect.

Being prepared is key to a good trip, hopefully this little guide helps prepare.
