Sundays with Miso. 🤍
Today, we drove Miso up the canyon. He closed his eyes, stuck his head out the window, and just let it all soak in. I watched him and tried to hold on to that moment for as long as I could.
I’m not sure how we got here so quickly, but this week our vet told us we need to start thinking about saying goodbye.
I always thought it would be his body that would eventually give out. I never imagined it would be his mind. Miso has canine dementia, and the cognitive decline has been heartbreaking to witness. In just the last couple of weeks, he has deteriorated so much. It feels like we’ve lost little pieces of him almost overnight.
I’m not ready to say goodbye. How could I be? But I also know he isn’t quite the same dog anymore, and I’m trying to understand what that means for him, not just for us.
Donnie and I have been married for 18 years. Sixteen of those years have been with Miso by our side. He has been there for so much of our life together that it’s hard to imagine our days without him. He isn’t just our dog. He’s family, woven into the very fabric of our lives.
To say we are heartbroken would be an understatement.
For now, we’ll take the drives up the canyon, the little walks, the car rides, and every moment he still enjoys. I’ll keep looking for those glimpses of the Miso we’ve always known, while trying to love the dog he is today. ❤️🩹🐶🥹
I know we won’t have him forever. I just wish forever could be a little longer. 🤍
