Last year we had quite a few people looking for bikes to take down to Burning Man, so this year we have a whole selection of bikes ready for the playa! We’ve got a great selection of weird and colorful cruiser bikes that are ready to be fixed up and decorated. Come by the Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective to take a look and try some out!

Another donated bike going out into the world! For many people who receive bikes through our free bike programs, bikes are an essential form of transportation. There are many reasons why cars may not be an option. Cycling offers a way for people to have a self sufficient way to get around, while also being much more affordable and sustainable. Thank you to all of our volunteers who help to fix and build these bikes, and to everyone who donates bikes and parts to our programs!

Meet our current volunteer spotlight, Michael! Michael has worked at many different bike shops and now does software development for Santa Cruz Bicycles. He has always been involved with community bike shops, so when he moved to Salt Lake in 2021 he immediately started helping at the Bicycle Collective. Michael mostly uses bikes for commuting and transportation, but he also loves mountain biking and bike touring with friends. Off the bike, he's into rock climbing and pottery. Keep an eye out for his handmade cactus tea cups! Michael's favorite parts of volunteering is sharing his bike knowledge with the community, helping under-resourced folks get access to car free transportation, and meeting new friends. Thanks for everything you do for the Bicycle Collective, Michael!

Monday nights hit different at Bicycle Collective.

While most people are winding down after the weekend, our Monday night volunteers are just getting started — wrenches in hand, ready to give another round of donated bikes a second life. Whether it's someone's first shift or their hundredth, they show up week after week with the same energy and heart.

We run three volunteer sessions every week, and each one has its own personality — but there's something special about the Monday crew. Maybe it's the way they turn "just fixing bikes" into laughter, community, and connection. Maybe it's the reminder that showing up consistently is its own kind of generosity.

To everyone who spends their Monday evenings with us: thank you. You're proof that a few hours a week, given freely, can ripple out into a whole community on two wheels.

Every bike has a story — and last week, three new ones began.

Meet Wanda, Dustin, and Ailis — three wonderful people who each received a bike this week thanks to the hands and hearts of our volunteers. Behind every refurbished bike is hours of care: patched tubes, tuned gears, oiled chains, and a whole lot of love from volunteers who show up again and again because they believe a bike can change someone's day — or their whole life.

For Wanda, Dustin, and Ailis, that bike isn't just transportation. It's freedom, independence, and one less thing to worry about.

To our volunteers: thank you for turning donated bikes into second chances. You are the heart of everything we do. 🙏
