Town Books

Town Books Quality used books at more than fair prices. All proceeds benefit the town’s nearly 100-year-old Carnegie-built library.

Town Books is operated entirely by volunteers with the San Anselmo Friends of the Library, and all books are donated. Prices are competitive and the selection is large. We offer beautiful, barely-used coffee table books, suitable for gift-giving, as well as current fiction and non-fiction, and an awesome childrens' books section.

Today, we kick off our annual “Friendsgiving” campaign in our community through the power of literacy! 📚

Every instrument, prize, and cozy reading nook is a testament to the impact the Friends of the San Anselmo Library makes. This year, we're daring to dream big - doubling our programs and bringing more value to our community! 💛

By becoming a Friend for just $25, or giving what you can, you'll be fueling creativity, curiosity, and connection through craft supplies, Art Talk Tuesdays, children's music, the Teaching Garden, 🌱 and so much more.

Scan the QR code to link to the donation site or visit Town Books on Tunstead Ave to be part of the change.

We are so grateful for the hundreds of people who come together to make our efforts count: artisans, volunteers of Town Books, , the City of San Anselmo, and thousands of neighbors who donate books to our store. It takes a village and more to continue our mission of learning, reading, and bringing community together. 🙏❤🙏

💧 Our resident artist for September & October 2026: Joy Perrin, Impressions of Beautiful California.

Watercolor doesn't forgive easily, especially outdoors — light that won't hold still, paper that won't let you take anything back. Joy paints en plein aire by choice, and what she gets are coastlines and marshes caught mid-breath: a swan on still water, surf breaking against ochre bluffs.

She's a professional musician as well, which tracks 🎶 — there's a rhythm to how her pieces are built. Wet into wet, nothing overworked.

Reception is Friday, September 11, from 5 to 7. Come meet Joy and embrace her collection, then keep coming back — the show hangs through October. 🌊

🌙 Last call for the New Moon Artists.

Two months ago we hung seven artists' work on these walls — oil, graphite, encaustic, print, fiber. Since then it's changed how the shop feels. People come in for a paperback and end up standing in front of a painting for ten minutes. Some decide take the painting home.

That ends this month. If you've been meaning to stop by, this is the week — the work is still available, and a piece that speaks to you supports both the artist and the San Anselmo Public Library.

And to Deb, Susan, Pauliny, Sharon, Ericka, Mary Anne, and Leaza — thank you for putting something this personal on public walls, and for raising money for the San Anselmo Public Library. 🎨

🌄 Meet Ericka Lavigne, featured at Town Books.

Her hills are the ochre and gold you'd recognize from any Marin ridgeline — but the sky above has other ideas. She paints the hour when the light stops behaving and everything goes soft at the edges.

Book related organizations have been showing off Ericka's work since she was a child — she sold her artwork from the walls of the Sausalito Public Library.

🍸 Meet Mary Anne Rasmussen, featured this month at Town Books.

Cobalt blues, acid greens, a red bar top. She paints like someone making up for lost time — nothing muted, nothing hedged, every color turned up a notch past realism.

Come see her paintings in person this week, before the New Moon Artists exhibit comes to a close. 🎨

🌿 Meet Sharon Minchuk, one of our 7 currently featured artists at Town Books.

Her surfaces look weathered in the best sense — pale greens and golds that seem to have been rained on, buried, and dug back up. Stand with one a while and shapes start surfacing that weren't there a moment ago.

Come see her work in person this week — depth like this doesn't survive a photograph. 📸

✏️ Meet Pauliny Barreto, featured this month at Town Books.

Her drawings catch people mid-thought — a look held a beat too long, a gesture you can't quite read. Graphite does the work here, and the restraint is the point: what she leaves out is what keeps you standing there.

Come see her work in person this week. 📚

📖 SAVE THE DATE: Antiquarian & Vintage Book Sale, August 21–22, only two short days.

Some of these were printed before the building they're sitting in existed. They've held up better than most things that old — the weight, the foxed pages, that smell you can't get from a screen.

Worth remembering, too, that these were written without a delete key. No autocorrect, no undo, and definitely no AI option. Just ink, paper, patience, and the discipline of getting it right with time. ⌛ It shows and there are not many left in this world.

Stop by and take home a piece of history that will make for a great conversation piece. Remember, every dollar of net proceeds goes to the San Anselmo Public Library. 🕯 Every minute dedicated to Town Books is 100% volunteered and we are so grateful to those who give time to help us fund our local public library. 🙏

🖤 Meet Susan Harris, featured this month at Town Books.

Susan Harris works in print and oil, and has a knack for making heavy things — rock, stone, structure — feel almost weightless. Her pieces break a scene into parts and trust you to put it back together.

Come see her work in person this week. Some things don't translate to a screen. 🖼️
