WE’RE GETTING MARRIED!!! 💍

So… we’re going to be closed September 9th & 10th because us two goofballs are finally getting married. 😂

We’ve spent the last 2 years building The Clay Department, and getting to build this little community with all of you has been one of the best parts of it. Every class, clay pickup, glaze purchase, weird pottery question, and “I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing” moment has made this place what it is. We’re so damn grateful for you.

So we’re taking a few days to celebrate, eat too much, probably cry a little, and officially become betrothed. 🥹

Braylee & Serena will be holding down the store while we disappear for a few days, and we’ll be back the following week!

And since so many of you have asked, we finally put together a little wedding/honeymoon registry. It’s in our bio if you’d like to take a peek. ❤️

THE CLAY SOCIAL MUG EXCHANGE GUIDELINES ☕️

Starting at 4pm!

Bring a mug. Leave with a mystery mug. Become emotionally attached to a stranger’s ceramic vessel.

Here’s how it works:

• Bring ONE handmade mug to exchange
• Your mug should be made by you
• Your mug should be something you’d actually be excited to receive yourself. This is not the time to unload the mug you hate
• Functional mugs only please. No bisque, greenware, broken handles, or “it’s technically a mug” situations
• Your mug must be food safe and fully fired
• Please clean your mug before bringing it
• Your mug MUST be bagged or wrapped so nobody knows what they’re getting
• No peeking. The surprise is the whole point.
• We’ll randomly exchange mugs during The Clay Social
• You do NOT have to be a professional potter. Beginner mugs are absolutely welcome
• One mug per person so everyone gets a fair shot

Bring something you’d be proud to hand to another potter.

The goal is simple: make a mug, meet some ceramic weirdos, and go home with a mystery mug made by someone else.

We’re soft launching Morning Book Club on Beacon Hill with a First Tuesday Market!

Looking for local artists, makers, illustrators, stationery creators and generally cool creative people whose work belongs in a books & art space.

The market will be happening alongside the Last Chance Market next door at Copper Rose, so Beacon Hill is about to have A LOT going on.

GLAZE SWAP RULES BECAUSE WE ARE NOT TRYING TO START A GLAZE-BASED CIVIL WAR 🫡

The Glaze Exchange at The Clay Social is FREE & open to everyone, but PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE YOU CLEAN OUT THE BACK OF YOUR GLAZE CABINET.

Here’s how it works:

• Bring 1 - 3 commercial MIDFIRE glazes you no longer want
• Glazes must be in their ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER CONTAINER
• Bottles must be approximately 3/4 FULL OR MORE
• Glazes need to be in 100% usable condition. No dried out glaze, damaged containers, contaminated glaze, mystery glaze, or anything else you’d personally be mad about receiving
• The idea is that you tried it and DIDN’T LOVE THE RESULT. Maybe the color wasn’t giving. Maybe it looked completely different after firing. Maybe you’ve moved on. We’re not here to judge your glaze choices.

When you arrive, turn in your glaze(s) and receive ONE raffle ticket PER BOTTLE.

Once everyone has turned in their glazes, we’ll randomly draw tickets. When your number is called, you get to choose your glaze from the swap.

BRING 1 → LEAVE WITH 1
BRING 3 → LEAVE WITH 3

No bringing 3 and taking 7. This is a GLAZE EXCHANGE, not a glaze heist.

You cannot participate without bringing a glaze to exchange.

Only MIDFIRE commercial glazes are eligible.

Any glazes left over at the end will be donated, so nothing gets abandoned in the glaze orphanage.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: The Clay Department does not guarantee the performance, compatibility, safety, firing results, or condition of any glaze exchanged. You are accepting another maker’s glaze at your own discretion. ALWAYS TEST-FIRE unfamiliar glazes before using them on important work.
