Castroville is a special place💕
The Keller Huth Museum • Honoring The Namesake
The Keller Huth Museum carries the names of two families who helped shape Castroville and Medina County from the very beginning.
__________
Louis (Ferdinand Louis) Huth arrived in Texas in 1844 as one of Henri Castro’s most trusted leaders. Born in Baden, he met Castro in Paris and became a driving force behind the new colony. When Castro returned to Europe, Huth stayed behind to guide the settlers. He served as Castroville’s first Justice of the Peace, Medina County clerk, tax assessor, and chief justice. He also helped establish Quihi, operated a store, brewery, and gristmill, and is remembered as one of Castroville’s true unsung heroes.
___________
The Keller name represents generations of hardworking local families (farmers, educators, coaches, and community builders) who have called the Castroville, La Coste, and Rio Medina area home for well over a century. Their continued support and charitable contributions help keep our shared history alive for the next generation.
___________
Together, the Keller and Huth names remind us that Castroville’s story is one of courage, resilience, and deep community roots. The museum stands as a living tribute to the pioneers who built “The Little Alsace of Texas” and the families who continue to care for its legacy.
Come visit, learn the stories, and help preserve this special place for the future.
