✨ Crystals & Herbs for June ✨
June is one of only two months that has three birthstones associated with it: pearl, alexandrite, and moonstone.
Pearls are commonly associated with a sense of purity, humility, and innocence. As such, it is often said that the meaning of pearls as a birthstone is “sweet simplicity”. The stone is also thought to have beneficial properties, such as the ability to bestow long life and prosperity on those who have possession of one.
Alexandrite’s unusual colors are thought to be a result of the presence of chromium in the mineral. This stone is not commonly found, which is what makes it quite expensive. Many believed that it is for good luck.
Moonstones are so named for the bluish white spots that they contain within them, that when held up to the light, project a silvery shade that is likened to moonlight. When moonstones are moved around, their rays appear to bounce around, much like moonbeams do when they catch bodies of water. Moonstone is thought to bring about good fortune brought on by a spirit that lives within the stone.
Metaphysically basil is a sacred plant. Basilicum is derived from Greek to mean “Royal” or “King” and due to its elevated and potent healing uses it’s a deserved name. Basil brings balance between your body, mind and spirit. Its scent warms your soul and can bring spiritual clarity.
Dill is one of the herbs used by magicians in their spells and charms against witchcraft. For example, in England, it was used to counteract the evil influence of spells and was believed to be especially powerful worn next to bare skin. According to one mystical belief, it helped hanging stalks of dill over your baby’s cradle to keep away bad dreams and calm your child. Sometimes when being troubled by witches or having nightmares, the only thing that could help … was placing some dill seeds under the pillow.
Parsley is, in fact, strongly associated with the dead. It is steeped in superstition regarding Persephone and the underworld. Wearing or eating parsley is supposed to protect against drunkenness and increase strength, vitality, and passion.
