End of an era is near 💘💘💘 when I helped open Little Dame in 2015 I knew it wasn’t going to be forever, it was a big, hopeful, lofty experiment that taught me A LOT about business, event coordination, buying, selling, merchandising, marketing communications and so much more.
Little Dame helped me find my introduction to art education by chance of a fellow artists walking into the shop and introducing me to ❤️ Little Dame gave me a platform and so many artists that same platform as well to support a visual arts career. I want to say that even in the last few months, let alone the last 7 years we get inquiries from artists to sell their work and I WISH I had all the money to endlessly buy and support everyone’s work but that’s not the case. I’m sorry if you never felt validated by being in our shop and you wanted to. I’m not a gatekeeper I’m just struggling like the rest, in this economy, this post pandemic era. Business is HARD, surviving Covid was rough and my feelings towards this lifestyle have changed completely.
Boss babe era is dead, it’s not healthy to fake it til you make it. I was so poor working here, I volunteered my time for years while working multiple jobs but I tricked myself that was okay because, “I owned it.”
I like to think it wasn’t a waste of my time or a mistake because it’s formed me and I’ve grown so much since 2015. I’m a better person for meeting all of the wonderful people through this journey and I’m better for the responsibility there is in creating “a community,” and failing and succeeding at different things.
The deconstruction of a business is a releasing experience and it’s beautiful to move on and allow space in my life for new opportunities. This week I delete the website 💘 Heres a little screen grab or the current site. The photo is from the Dame Life book printed by and a sincere THANK YOU to everyone who supported visual artists and entrepreneurs with me.
