hey, how are you? it’s been a while.

this page has been collecting dust for some time now. i’ve honestly been going through a rough patch. lost my job, my rent went up, and overall i’ve just been disappointed with my life and health.

this record shop project has been a point of stress for me for some time now and earlier this year i just needed to get away from it. it’s hard to keep up when it’s a one man show.

profit has never been that important to me but to be honest i’ve been losing money since the beginning. i’ve pretty much blown through my entire savings now on inventory. selling imported dance music in the states is just not very lucrative.

i haven’t technically “lost” money because it’s spent on inventory, but i’ve bought a lot more than i’ve sold.

i recently got to a point where i was about to give up on the whole thing. but i’ve realized that i’m still passionate about it and can’t give up now. the support i’ve received has been amazing and heartwarming.

i’ve decided to take it easy a bit on the purchasing. i’ll still be ordering new records but just at a lower quantity and capacity. instead of feeling bummed out about myself i need to take initiative and work harder to spread the word and get the music out there. i still haven’t tapped into the full potential of the shop and i’m right now feeling optimistic about the future.

i’m finally going through and listing all the records i’ve been sitting on the last few months. i’ll be updating my discogs page as well. also been toying with this new logo idea.

i’ve got 25 new titles up now on the site. if you’ve messaged me recently and haven’t heard back, expect a reply soon.

It’s been a bit of a bender of a weekend over here, hope you’ve all been finding ways to enjoy yourself as well :-)

Just landed several large boxes of records, will slowly be getting them processed and listed. Also finally landed some of these Omnitronic TRM-202mk3 mixers — these were on backorder for a few months. Will have them up on the site soon, you can DM me for inquiries for now.

Some words from a Juno article: “It’s undeniable that rotary mixers occupy a special place in DJ culture; their association with foundational moments in the evolution of dance music, such as Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage in 70s and 80s NYC, has elevated seminal models by brands like Bozak and UREI to cult status. With the explosion of DJ culture in the 90s, mixers got more complex, with digital sound and all manner of features such as effects and scratch-friendly faders, changing the architecture of the standard DJ mixer significantly. But rotary mixers were able to maintain legendary status among purists and audiophile DJs, going for huge amounts on the secondhand market and enjoying a new wave of interest for their coveted analogue sound and no-frills design. Its compact size also makes it a must for smaller booths and portable enough for the odd bit of DJ travelling.”

Hi, my name is Uri. I run this online independent record store out of my bedroom in San Diego, California. I hand curate the selection myself, mostly importing new records from overseas.

House, techno, electro, breakbeat, trance, ambient — records that challenge ideas of genre normality. Inspired by historical institutions in San Diego, such as Siesta Records and the old Moontribe parties, and further on in California to Sunburn Records, ZoëMagik Records and the Wicked parties.

A goal of this project is to revisit many of those sounds as well as invite fresh new players from overseas. To support domestic producers, especially those at home here in the city. This store will dig its roots deep into San Diego and build a reputation for its commitment to cutting edge dance music.

Community is a founding principle of the store. While still budding, in time I hope to put San Diego on the global map of music scenes. I feel that it’s important to give back to the city I call home — recently I started a micro grant with some of my peers and so far we have raised over $500 to donate to developing artists from marginalized communities in hopes they can better find success in the face of adversity. It’s not much, but in time I hope it can grow into a bigger project of its own.

I look forward to see where this record store project goes. I’ve met some great people and made connections I never would have thought possible. I appreciate all the support I’ve been getting on this, it really keeps the passion alive.

It’s not clear when we will all be able to play shows again, but it’s important to support the artists who have provided us with dance music over the years. Many of them are now out of work — if they fall out of the scene they may never return again. Purchasing records directly puts money into artists pockets and helps put food on their table and pay their bills. The scene wouldn’t be anything without the artists, graphic designers, label owners, distributions, venue owners/staff, blog writers and patrons. We’re all trying to stay strong and get through this together. Hopefully we can all get back on the dancefloor soon!

Recently inspired by my friends and to create a micro grant here in San Diego. Together with we are providing (1) $100 micro grant to a San Diego artist!

To be eligible you must identify with any of the following communities: LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, APIMEDA, Latinx; be a musician or artist (i.e. muralist, painter, sculptor, DJ, producer, etc.), and currently living in San Diego County.

The purpose of this grant is to help contribute to your medium. Whether that be through the purchase of music/records, equipment, programs, instruments, paint, brushes, etc. We want you to expand your creativity.

APPLICATION: Please send all applications to [email protected]. All nominations are to be 3rd party, meaning you nominate someone else. In the application please state who you are nominating, their art form, why this person inspires you, any community involvement, and lastly what you think this person would spend the money on. Please include any social media links and the best way to contact them.

If anyone or any organization would like to match donations, please let me know or send an email.

Right now some people are forced to make decisions over whether or not purchasing items to further their craft will affect if they will have food on their plate that night. We’re all trying to live like we were six months ago but for some situations it just is not sustainable. It’s not time to give up yet and we support anyone who continues to grind their dreams here. We think you are important, your art is important, and together you make a difference in San Diego for the better. If we can better your art with just $100 we would love to do so!
