The Friends of the Point Loma/Hervey Library present an Author Talk with Ann Bancroft featuring "Almost Family" on Monday, August 11th, 2025 at 6:30pm in the Marla Haas Community Room.

Three middle aged, metastatic cancer patients become unlikely friends in a comically awful support group. They ditch the group, forming their own, aiming to enjoy life on their own terms. Their bond leads them to help one another resolve, family issues and find peace and acceptance at the end of their lives.

Ann Bancroft began writing fiction after a career in journalism and communications. A graduate of UC Berkeley, she’s been a newspaper and wire service reporter, editorial writer, speechwriter, and journalism teacher. "Almost Family," winner of the Sarton Women’s Book Award for fiction is her first novel.

The Friends of the Point Loma/Hervey Library present an Author Talk with Anastasia Zadeik featuring "The Other Side of Nothing" on Monday, July 14th, 2025 at 6:30pm in the Marla Haas Community Room.

When two troubled young adults escape from a psychiatric facility to embark on a cross-country search for truth, beauty, and the meaning of life, their mothers form an uneasy alliance and take off on a journey of their own, hoping to find their kids before it's too late. A moving exploration of family, friendship, and how far we are willing to go for the ones we love, "The Other Side of Nothing" is a powerful read about loss, self-determination, and second chances.
Anastasia Zadeik is the author of two critically acclaimed, award-winning novels, "Blurred Fates" and "The Other Side of Nothing." She serves as Director of Programming for the San Diego Writers Festival, sits on the board of the International Memoir Association, and volunteers as a mentor for the literary nonprofit So Say We All. She lives in Mission Hills.
