Mac Daddy… she deserves every bit of it.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, I’m reminded that freedom is not only something we remember—it is something we continue to build upon.

From Emancipation in 1863, to the delayed news reaching Texas in 1865, to generations of families who continued moving forward despite unimaginable obstacles, every generation has been tasked with carrying the torch a little farther.

This video is a reminder of what that forward progress can look like.

Watching my daughter, Synovia—affectionately known as Novi and the “No” in my NoJJ—being featured during Kinfolk Fest fills my heart with gratitude and pride.

What I see is more than a successful event. I see education, innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, community, and culture converging in one moment.

We often think a degree prepares us for one specific profession, but sometimes its greatest gift is something much larger. It expands the mind. It teaches us how to think, create, solve problems, and imagine new possibilities. The seeds planted through education often reveal themselves years later in ways we never expected.

To witness Novi building community through Mac Daddy Culture Kitchen, creating opportunities, sharing culture, and pursuing work that brings her joy is a beautiful example of that unfolding.

For me, this is also a reminder that legacy is not what we leave behind. Legacy is what continues to grow through the people we pour into, the values we model, and the opportunities each generation creates for the next.

May she continue to dream boldly, build fearlessly, and follow what brings her purpose. And may the benefits of that courage ripple through her family and community for generations to come.

The “No” in NoJJ represents my daughter, Synovia. Today, I’m celebrating her journey, her growth, and the beautiful future she is creating.

Keep going, Novi. The ancestors dreamed. You are building.

I’ll SEE YA’LL TOMORROW…Today another Historic movement of Women, Blacks and ALL Americans.
Let’s Vote!

Black female trailblazers have been pivotal in shaping laws and advancing freedoms for Black people and women, often working tirelessly to challenge oppressive systems and push for equality. Here’s how some have made significant contributions:

Harriet Tubman - Known for her courageous efforts in the Underground Railroad, Tubman helped free hundreds of enslaved individuals, directly challenging the institution of slavery. Her advocacy for freedom inspired abolitionists and fueled the anti-slavery movement, which ultimately contributed to the end of slavery with the 13th Amendment.

Sojourner Truth - As a former slave who became a powerful abolitionist and women’s rights advocate, Truth fought for both racial and gender equality. Her speech “Ain’t I a Woman?” highlighted the intersectional struggles Black women faced, helping to shape early feminist discourse. Her activism paved the way for later laws aimed at addressing equality and justice for both Black people and women.

Ida B. Wells - An investigative journalist, Wells used her voice to expose the horrors of lynching, leading to greater awareness and calls for anti-lynching laws. Though anti-lynching bills were repeatedly blocked during her lifetime, her work inspired generations of civil rights advocates and laid the groundwork for modern civil rights legislation.

Shirley Chisholm - As the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress, Chisholm fought for women’s rights, racial equality, and social justice. She was a co-founder of the Congressional Black Caucus and advocated for policies addressing poverty, healthcare, and education. Her run for the presidency in 1972 also broke barriers, showing the political strength of Black women.

Rosa Parks - By refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus, Parks ignited the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which became a significant event in the Civil Rights Movement. This led to a Supreme Court decision declaring segregation on public buses unconstitutional, a major victory in dismantling Jim Crow laws.

Kamala Harris - As the first Black and South Asian woman Vice President, Harris represents a shift toward greater representation in the highest levels of government. She has supported legislation aimed at criminal justice reform, voting rights protections, and healthcare, all of which have broad implications for racial and gender equity.

Madam C.J. Walker - The first self-made Black woman millionaire, Walker’s success in the beauty industry broke economic barriers for Black women, establishing a legacy of entrepreneurship and economic empowerment. Her philanthropy supported educational and civil rights causes, demonstrating that financial independence was essential for broader social and legislative change.

These women, among others, have worked tirelessly for equality, pushing the boundaries of laws and social norms. Their contributions have influenced civil rights laws, inspired constitutional amendments, and set legal precedents that continue to empower both Black people and women across generations. Their legacy lives on in laws that promote civil rights, voting rights, and anti-discrimination measures, which continue to evolve through their enduring impact.
