Think it’s hot outside?? Wait ‘til you see all the heat on the wall for New Comic Book Day!

Come by the shop, enjoy our recently repaired AC, and relax with some incredibly cool comic books. “But Aaron,” I can hear you say “how can the comics be both hot AND cool??” To you I say: IT’S COMICS, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

It’s an indie heavy week, with some amazing new books from Image, Dark Horse, ONI, BOOM and more. Karman Blade is a stunning new fantasy series from the team behind Little Bird and Precious Metal about a boy who is destined to kill a god. Spawn ‘77 is a superhero time warp, illustrated by hot cover artist Mark Spears. Six of Us reunites the team from The Visions, with a murder mystery riff on a beloved ‘90s sitcom where an actor is killed by one of his former co stars / “friends”. Forever Home is a spooky survival story about a house designed to protect a family after the fall of civilization, but time works differently inside the Forever Home. Fixation from IDW plays on fandoms, with a reunion for a horror franchise leading to real world murders. Lots of spooky stuff on the indie front as we cruise deeper into fall time!

Marvel’s Mangaverse mashes up Iron Man, Ironheart, and Moon Knight in this week’s Iron Knight. Challenges of Doom provides a flashback centered around Amazing Spider-Man 5 when Spidey first meets Doom. Star Wars: the Book of Boba Fett adapts the Disney+ series into comic form. And Marvel Gold ‘76 combines Bullseye, Star Lord, Nova, and Jack of Hearts, all of whom debuted 50 years ago!

It’s a lighter DC week, but there’s no shortage of Bat books. Batman Bad Seeds: Gotham Central revives the police procedural, following the GCPD as they deal with Poison Ivy’s plants consuming the city. Plus new issues of Clayface, Barbara Gordon, and Batman & Robin Year One: Dynamic Duos.

Speaking of Batman, Absolute Batman Volume 3 is out today! We’ve got a huge stack of both hardcovers and paperbacks for the best selling book out there right now. Plus plenty more trades and hardcovers!

Shout out to our bud Danny Munster for bringing a couple boxes of Topps Chrome Marvel cards into the shop for us to open! I got into Marvel cards before I read a Marvel comic… as a kid I used to take my $3 allowance to Jo-Ann’s Variety Store in Reading, MA which got me a 2 day rental of an NES game, a Hostess Fruit Pie, and a pack of Marvel Universe Series II cards. I would memorize first appearances, secret identities, and power levels, so those old Marvel cards are a big part of my origin story. It’s very cool to still get a kick out of ripping packs with friends 30+ years later. Thanks Danny!

Hey gang, it’s New Comic Book Day! It’s a huge DC week, with excellent Next Level launches for Legion of Super Heroes, Doom Patrol and Teen Titans. But there’s more than DC on the shelves, everything from Archie to Hellraiser!

Horror stuff is definitely picking up as we head into fall (I’m talking about Hellraiser here, not Archie). We’ve got a reprint of the stone cold classic Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom Triumph and Torment, a Top 5 Doom story for sure. Speaking of reprints, we’ve got the latest printings of Absolute Batman 1-20 and the DWJ annual, as well as reprints of Batman 1-8 from the Fraction / Jimenez run!

And don’t forget the trades! There’s a classic Epic Collection for Iron Man, a brand new Alex Ross hardcover graphic novel, a DC compact for Vertigo standard Fables, the latest volume of manga hit Billy Bat, a trade for the sneak hit Twilight Zone from IDW, a big honkin’ W0rdltr33 hardcover collection and more!

Aaron is hanging out with his parents this morning, so last minute DM requests won’t get seen until this afternoon. If you need anything call after noon when the open rush calms down. Or just swing by the shop in person, that’s way more fun! See you soon, we’ll be here from 11-7!
