A day in Arles for the photography exhibitions ,our annual pilgrimage as fans of the art . We missed many years while living in California so we now make it every summer that we are back to Provence ! Plus the city is always beautiful to walk through .

Out of the fifteen exhibitions that we saw, the one at Luma, an art center designed by Frank Gehry had the best curated exhibition about animal photography … weren’t to sure we would like that but it was fantastic . Presented at La Mécanique Generale an old refurbished warehouse within the complex. One not to miss if you are going before it ends October 4th.

We drove up to the Belvedere of the village with a picnic and watched along other families what was like watching a blinding sunset and come out of it to see a crescent sun finally setting into the Provencal vineyards 🌙
It was blistering hot and all the sudden perfect night temperature even though it only got up to 97% dark . I could never capture the moon kissing the sun almost perfectly but printed it in my heart as we would tell my mom every time she was trying to take a photo of a magic moment and couldn’t get it right ✨
We both remembered watching a solar eclipse as kids with our parents . My dad had me look at it through his welding mask . It was way high in the sky in the middle of the afternoon and I never forgot that moment. This was different , not totally dark , a slow burn on a wonderful summer night which will still leave a memorable impression because we shared it 💞🌙

Summer date night celebrating our 34th anniversary at our favorite secret place ✨ 🍽️ Maison l'Acacia en Provence

Joanna is Dutch , grew up in Java, traveled the world and made Provence her home every summer for years . She shares her talent in the kitchen for private dinners in Amsterdam the rest of the year and we are lucky to have her here from May to September . Her cuisine is delicate , infused with flavors from Asia as well as the freshest local Provencal produce. It is sophisticated in an authentic simple setting which is why we love it so much . We just feel like having dinner at her home every time.
There is only one menu for the night , four courses and a wonderful wine list . You just inform her of allergies at the time of your reservation which is recommended as she takes about 20 guests maximum per night, Thursday, Friday and Saturday .

This is our special place, perfect for warm summer nights which we missed a lot in San Diego where the cold marine layer would roll in after 4pm and a fleece was needed if you wanted to stay out with temperatures dropping around 17C … no strappy sundresses for long lingering nights near the California coast .

Last night was Summertime in Provence at its best !

Just getting to the Villa Carmignac museum in Porquerolles is already special. Everything is made to have you experience it with your senses .
You are greeted with a homemade drink , then you take off your shoes to feel from head to toes…
The current exhibition was totally in sync with me ✨ “California dreaming” , palm trees , sea , sunsets and pop art . Standing under a pool of water was a big sand sculpture ….the reflection created a relaxing mood perfect for meditation which you could do in the next room … if you were alone like me visiting at the end of the day 🧘‍♀️💖
Then spend time in the gardens surrounding the main building… you’ll find sculptures , a restaurant and bar serving wine from their local winery .
Not to be missed when in Porquerolles

Porquerolle island is just a quick ferry ride from Hyères… a small car free place where you either walk , hike or bike … I did all three during my visit!

Never been there before but I had heard about the beautiful beaches and crystal clear water 💙🩵 It didn’t disappoint ! Every beach or creek was more beautiful than the other and on a weekday before high season , I found the perfect spot to go for a swim with absolutely nobody. But I could tell that the closer to town you stay the busiest it is and it must be madness in summer .
It reminded me of California in places , of the rugged Oregon coast in others but was totally Mediterranean with all the huge parasol pines everywhere plus the breeze isn’t cold neither is the water !
This little escape just a few hours away was a perfect reminder of why we moved back home 🥰🇫🇷

The island has a fabulous modern art museum which must not be missed and will deserve a post on its own Fondation Carmignac

I always love a Fashion exhibition because Haute Couture is more than fashion; it is extraordinary craftsmanship serving creativity and becomes Art .
The MET in NYC, the Dior Gallery in Paris and many museums have been curating incredible exhibitions .
I’ve been lucky to see some of my idol designers like Thierry Mugler , Iris Van Herpen , Dolce & Gabana, Alaia at the Villa Borgese in Rome , as well as Louvre Couture , the very first fashion exhibition at Le Louvre last summer.Absolutely stunning!

I discovered Schiaparelli when Daniel Roseberry became its designer . His Couture creations are mind blowing in every aspect. I was dying to see the London exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum showing right now and recommended it to my friends who were going to London . They brought me the exhibition book back as a souvenir 🎁♥️🙏

I realized that Elsa Schiaparelli back when she started her Couture House was so in advance for her time and now can see Roseberry channeling Elsa’s cutting edge . She was friend with all the painters and loved Surrealism. Picasso, Cocteau, Dali partnered with her in creating some of her most iconic pieces in 1937-1938 like the skeleton dress .
Making a shoe hat looked pretty crazy but she had thought of this !
Thank you Mr Roseberry for honoring her spirit !

At the V&A Museum London until November 6th

Visiting Dali’s house while in Catalonia 🇪🇸 Amazing to see how he lived, where he painted, all the objects he collected 🤩.
I was expecting something very crazy but even though it certainly is eccentric, it looked like a very interesting cabinet de curiosités. The rooms are super small but the light specially in his atelier is exceptional. One can understand why this was The place for his unbelievable creativity . Reservations required in advance as only 8 people can go in at the same time .

We planted them when we moved back to my family house four years ago to give the plain facade some charm . It looks lovely this year 🩷

I love that we can go to Paris for a day like we did to Los Angeles … 3h30 door to door , a 50€ bullet train ticket and a bit of planning !
It is probably the same time to drive from San Diego to LA nowadays 😅

This exceptional Matisse exhibition at the Grand Palais was the excuse and so worth it 💙🩵💙🤍
A collection of over 300 of his paintings , mostly his cutouts .
The four blue nudes side by side for the first time 💙💙💙💙
On going until end of July.
Tip: try going after 6pm/18h to avoid crowds , you can buy anytime any day tickets for an extra 5€ if your time a lot is sold out and it is open until 10pm /22h on Fridays

Not quite finished yet but after what seemed for ever , we are on the home run part of our house remodel !
The last big chunk was our massive entry hall/staircase which took the past three months of daily blood, sweat and injuries . But it made the past couple of weeks working on finishing touches , painting doors, baseboards, installing trims , new old switches , lighting and other little treasures we had been hunting at antique fair so much fun ! Drapes are next, a few more touch up and we will be ready to enjoy it and host friends this season . Best feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment 🏡
