Marshall Arts Blown Glass

Marshall Arts Blown Glass Marshall Arts Glass Studio is located near downtown San Diego in the Banker’s Hill neighborhood within easy walking distance of Balboa Park.

As the “artist in residence” Marty Marshall built his own hot shop in 2004 just outside the Victorian Era (circa 1901) house he and wife Jean restored. Marty started blowing glass about 10 years ago, but his fascination with glass began while growing up in Okinawa, Japan and watching local artists create beautiful objects from melted sand. In 2009 Marty was able to take his boyhood fascination and

turn the Marshall Arts Glass Studio into his full-time gig. Marty describes glassblowing as both a “joy” and an “obsession” depending on the day. The obsession with glass blowing has lead Marty to study with many artisans from: Spanish Village (Balboa Park), UCSD Fat Baby glassblowing studio, Seattle GlassWorks, Bay Area Glass Institute (BAGI) (San Jose, Ca.), and The Studio at Corning Museum of Glass (NY). Marty focuses on traditional Italian glass techniques, with his specialty being using cane and incalmo to create movement and color in his pieces. Marty has produced more than 1,000 pieces and has exhibited his work nationally with numerous private collections internationally.
