We don't think we've ever had this much happening in one month!!

August is full of author events, workshops, book clubs, a book swap, Downtown Summer Nights, and a couple of brand-new events that we're really excited to finally share.

One of our favorite things in the store are our Blind Dates with a Book.

Each one is hand-picked by one of our booksellers, wrapped with a little dating profile, and packed with little goodies. We honestly have a hard time keeping them in stock. They're usually gone almost as soon as we make them.

We've got three available right now... for now👀

A couple stole $511 worth of merchandise from Judging By The Cover today.

The woman bypassed our payment process by clicking out of the payment screen and falsely recording the transaction as an “Other Payment Method,” leaving the store with no payment collected. She even entered a phone number to sign up for our rewards program afterward, which just rubbed salt in the wound.

The phone number entered appears (through a reverse search) to be associated with an Anna Nichole Desiderato, though I can’t confirm whether that person is the individual shown in our security footage.

I’ve already filed a report with the Sheriff’s Department, but I wanted to share these photos in case other local businesses should be aware or if anyone recognizes the person pictured.

If you happen to see any of the items pictured listed for sale online, I’d really appreciate it if you’d send me a screenshot or link.

I’m also just… really heartbroken.

March and April were incredibly difficult months for us financially, and we were only just starting to get back on our feet. Losing $511 in inventory is devastating for a small independent bookstore.

What makes this even harder is that many of the stolen items came from our local authors and vendors. We will still be paying them for every item that was taken because they shouldn’t have to bear the cost of someone else’s actions. That means this theft doesn’t just impact our bookstore, it impacts multiple small businesses in our community.
