Tonight: Alamo Drafthouse SF Bay Area & Amoeba Music continue WEIRD SF, the monthly film series showcasing offbeat & underscreened movies set in San Francisco, with CAPONE CRIES A LOT (1985) on 9/23 at 9:30pm.
In this underseen late-career masterwork from Seijun Suzuki (BRANDED TO KILL, TOKYO DRIFTER), Kaiemon, a naniwa-bushi performer, travels to Prohibition-era San Francisco in search of prosperity. Convinced that Al Capone is President of the United States and that he may impress him with his old-fashioned singing, he instead falls in with unsavory Japanese hoteliers, Chinese moneylenders and bootleggin’ Italian-American mafiosos.

TONIGHT at 5pm: All the way from Tokyo, the punk band SHE'S plays a live set and signs their new album, "So Far," at Amoeba SF!

"So Far" is driven by unique rhythms. The Hammond organ runs wild alongside sharp guitar riffs and raw vocals. With all three front members composing and singing, SHE’S’ sound has been labeled everything from post-punk and pop-punk to weird punk. In short, they fit into no single genre, yet they embody them all. Most of their tracks punch in at a tight two minutes and explode to an end. And their album appropriately plays at 45 rpm.
