L.Ph. Bolander & Sons / Bolander Flagpoles Family-owned flagpole manufacturing in San Francisco since 1885 L.Ph. Bolander & Sons was founded in 1881 by Louis Bolander.

In 1885 he produced his first wood flagpole and started a long tradition of supplying high quality flagpoles and wooden masts throughout the country. He designed, and Patented, the first Revolving Truck assembly and the first Counterbalance flagpole. The firm is currently owned and operated by the fifth and sixth generation of the Bolander family.

This 20’ estate pole has been through a lot. It was installed in 2000 and has flown flags 24/7 since. Mounted on a small San Mateo County coastline dock in California, it is exposed to the constant brutal force of the Pacific Ocean. Other than replacing the halyard and snaps the pole has withstood countless storms. The second photo was taken during a winter storm king tide combined with a huge swell that almost washed the whole dock away.
