Dick Vivian has left the dance floor. On Friday, June 24, he passed peacefully in his beautiful home, right about the time he would have been leaving to open the shop.
The world will miss this totally singular and extraordinary person. Our joke-teller, dancer, proprietor, host (both social and professional), waiter, tennis ace, best calves in the city, stack-maker, cash-loaner, gift-giver, convertible driver, laugher, cocktail drinker, not-a-bad-record-in-the-place-thank-you-very-much, mayor of the Lower Haight, Rooky Ricardo himself. He was a celeb. “I’m a celeb.” - you can hear his voice.
He will miss you as much as you miss him. His deep and enduring love was sharing the music with you.
A memorial event is in planning, so please stay tuned.
In lieu of flowers, play your records for Dick today. The last 45 (in this world) he listened to was Gwen Owens’ “Keep On Living”.
