Another refret! According to our customer, this is a 1968 Strat that he bought on consignment from Jimi Hendrix in 1969. Rick Turner did the modifications in the 70s.

A delivery car rolled up with four pieces of guitar history and horsepower inside: a PRS Tigerseye, a PRS Modern Eagle, a 1973 Fender Stratocaster, and a 1964 Gibson SG Junior. So what style of music would you guess their owner, Jason Wright, is best known for? Flamenco, of course. When he’s not performing flamenco, Jason channels that same technical precision and natural musical instinct into two North Bay Area bands: The Swankmasters and S**T.

To get this quartet ready for the full spectrum of music Jason plays, we did a full spectrum of work on the four instruments. Alex dialed in the Modern Eagle with a full setup, and gave the Tigerseye a wiring cleanup, a new pickup, and a switch replacement—followed by a fret level on the Plek and a setup.

The ’64 SG Junior and the ’73 Strat had frets that were well past their prime. To bring them back to fighting form, both received a full refret, Plek fret level, fresh setup, and a new nut. Looking ahead to a lifetime of playing, Jason opted for stainless steel frets and a brass nut to make sure these two are built for endless shredding.

On any pre-1985 Fender, frets are installed from the side of the neck, which means they must be carefully removed the same way to avoid major tear-out on the fretboard surface. Once again, Ross’s patience and master-level skill, ensured these vintage instruments received the expertise and attention they deserve.
