Katie Wood Jewelry

Katie Wood Jewelry Unique Wearable Art I have spent the last year healing and rediscovering my loves/passions and how to incorporate them into my everyday life.

A love for jewelry led to seeking out fun jewelry making classes, which sparked my newfound love of creating my own unique pieces. A passion for collage making passed down from my mother was easily translated into these fun, wearable "mini collages", each one different and one of a kind.

Yesterday we spent the day at NY Pride watching the parade and basking in the joy of being with so many people who are a part of or support the LGBTQ community. The mood was up and it was truly a celebration, as well as a tribute to the lives that were brutally taken in Orlando just two weeks prior. [ 241 more words. ]

Like so many over the last week I've been trying to process and understand the horrendous massacre that occurred in the early morning hours of June 12, at the gay club Pulse in Orlando. I grieve for all of the 49 lives taken so brutally by a madman with an assault rifle. My heart goes out to the families of the victims, and the survivors, who will have to replay the horror of this night over and over again. [ 546 more words. ]

My main motivation for starting this blog was to get more comfortable with putting my writing out into the world. I started a novel in 2012 that I am now working on again, after abandoning the project to make and sell jewelry through Katie Wood Jewelry. While it was fun to make interesting pieces out of found objects, at one point even using bees, moths, and butterfly wings; my heart is always pulling me toward my lifetime goal of writing a novel and becoming a writer. The following posts about our trip will not be in real time, as we have already been at our final destination of Warren, NJ for a over a week now. I started writing this post about Houston while we were there: The last two days of our journey have been spent blissfully doing nothing but lounging at our cousins' beautiful Houston home. I'm writing now from the cozy bed in our actually quite lovely hotel room, just outside of Austin, TX. This is the first time in a few days that I've been able to get working wi-fi, so I'm taking advantage to catch up on various emails and boring reality that can't be completely ignored just because we are traveling. I'll try to sum up the last few days as succinctly as I can...and if you are following me on Instagram you can see the photo of me standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon wearing a faux fur vest and heels. After a pit stop in Bakersfield last night, we drove over the border of California into Arizona today. The scenery was stunning and lovely, of course, but for some reason I felt irritable. I rarely get road rage, unless someone is being blatantly rude or clueless and driving slow in the fast lane. I don't understand why it is so difficult to politely move over to the right (especially on a relatively open road where there is plenty of room between semis) to let the other person pass correctly. My wife says that blogs are "over" and nobody reads them anymore. Which may be true. All people have time for these days (I am actually old enough to say that!) is scrolling quickly through photos and watching You Tube videos. I admit that I myself don't read blogs on a regular basis (though there are a few that I like and will check in periodically). [ 717 more words. ]

My goal this summer is to nourish myself by taking time to have fun and play :) after working the last 7 days in a row, I'm reading a book for PLEASURE (which I haven't done in ages!) What books are on your summer reading list? I'm sinking my teeth into Toni Morrison's A Mercy right now...not exactly "light summer reading" but I need to start somewhere
