Twenty-five years ago, Socola Chocolatier began with two teenagers, a love of chocolate, and an idea that would grow far beyond where it started. This year, we had the chance to celebrate that milestone surrounded by the community that has supported Socola along the way.

For an afternoon, our San Francisco shop was full of some of our favorite things: plenty of chocolate, Vietnamese-inspired pastries from Tano, coffee from Daybreak Coffee, live music from Rock Project SF, and, of course, a visit from some very special alpaca friends.

It also coincided with Mid-Autumn Festival season, a time for reuniting with friends and families; aptly, the day was a celebration of community. We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has tasted, gifted, shared, and supported Socola along the way. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us, and to the partners and friends who helped make the day so special.

Here’s to 25 years of Socola, and to everything still to come.

Today, Socola was named one of America’s Top 100 Small Businesses by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce! We're especially proud to have made the CO-100 list in the Enduring Business category during our 25th year.

When and I started Socola in 2001, we certainly couldn't have imagined where it would take us. What began with experimenting with chocolate and selling at farmers markets has grown into a San Francisco chocolate company with our own storefront and production kitchen, corporate gifting, e-commerce, and a location at SFO.

Through it all, we've stayed rooted in what makes Socola Socola: our Vietnamese heritage and the belief that a small business can grow without losing the story behind it. Our challenges and reinventions — including completely rethinking our business during COVID — makes being recognized in the Enduring Businesses category particularly meaningful.

I'm grateful to our incredible team, our customers, our family, and everyone who has supported this little chocolate company over the past 25 years.

Thank you, U.S. Chamber of Commerce for this recognition, and congratulations to all of the 2026 CO—100 honorees!

It's been 25 years since we started Socola as teenagers, and we'd love to welcome you to our in-person anniversary celebration at 535 Folsom Street, San Francisco, CA!

Indulge in our decadent chocolates, crafted with two and a half decades of love and dedication, pet some alpacas and buy some chocolates for Mid-Autumn Festival. To turn our anniversary into an all-out celebration of our community, there will also be food from @‌tano__sf, Vietnamese coffee from @‌enjoyadaybreak, and live music from @‌rockprojectsf ✨

Note for the alpaca lovers, our alpaca friends will be around from 12pm to 1pm! Come on time to get your pets in. Entry is free but please RSVP at the link in bio!

🌕 The lanterns are up — and so is our Mid-Autumn Collection!!

Tet Trung Thu falls on September 25th this year, which gives you a little under a month to work your way through all six flavors (we recommend starting now).

Here's what's in the box:

🏮 Trung Thu — lemongrass and ginger (from @‌vanvan.etcetera), coconut, calamansi and green curry in a dark chocolate ganache... named after Wendy's dad!

💮 Sông Cái Floral Gin — gin flavored with 5 flowers from @‌songcaidistillery, infused into and enrobed with dark chocolate

🫖 Milk Tea — vanilla black tea-infused milk chocolate ganache enrobed in a milk chocolate shell

🍯 Chrysanthemum & Honey — chrysanthemum and honey-infused milk and dark chocolate ganache

There’s one topic we’ve gotten questions on over the past 25 years.

Why is our mascot a winged alpaca? How is that relevant to a Vietnamese chocolatier? Or worse, “what’s with all the llamas?”

Contrary to popular belief, there ARE alpacas in Vietnam! They live in the mountainous regions, like in Sapa or Da Lat, where it’s a little cooler. Alpacas are our Chief Chocolatier / CEO Wendy’s favorite animal. Ours is named Harriet, and her wings allow her to travel all around the world in search for new flavors.

Pictured are the sisters and cofounders with the budding collection of stuffed alpacas, some made with real alpaca fleece! The collection has grown since this photo was taken, and you can see some on display in our Folsom Street location ✨
