What looks possible on screen isn’t always possible in production.

Hi, I’m Rayn, Design Director at AITPOP.
After more than 10 years working with custom pop-up books and paper engineering, I’ve learned this through plenty of projects — and plenty of mistakes.

A structure might look amazing in a drawing, but then you discover the material doesn’t work, the mechanism is too complicated, or the design simply can’t survive mass production.
That’s one of the reasons we built our own production factory and hand-assembly team.

By keeping design, prototyping and production closely connected, we can solve problems earlier and have much better control over quality, details and delivery.
For me, paper engineering isn’t just about making something beautiful.
It’s about making an idea actually happen.

Hi, I'm Rayn, Design Director at AITPOP.

I'd like to share a pop-up book we created for a scenic destination.

When I designed this project, I wanted the book to feel like a journey through the destination's history and landscape.

The first page tells an ancient myth. The second takes us into its revolutionary history. The third brings traditional Chinese architecture and historic structures into three dimensions.

Then the story moves into the landscape itself, with four independent scenes showing spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

I really enjoy projects like this because there is so much more to work with than just a beautiful landscape. History, culture, architecture, stories, and scenery can all become part of the paper engineering.

The result is a piece that can be opened, explored, and experienced—not just looked at.

This project was designed and produced by our team at AITPOP. We provide custom pop-up book design, prototyping, and mass production for tourism, cultural, and brand projects.

Hi, I'm Rayn, Design Director at AITPOP.

I'd like to share a custom pop-up book we created for a new energy company.

When I started working on this project, I didn't want each page to simply present another product. Instead, I wanted the whole book to feel like one story.

The journey begins in spring, with wind turbines standing among green hills. Summer brings solar panels along the river, surrounded by mountains and wind power. In autumn, the solar panels become part of a golden landscape.

The story then moves from renewable energy into energy storage, before finally arriving at the company's headquarters and campus.

For me, that's what makes a corporate pop-up book interesting. It's not just about making something three-dimensional. It's about finding a visual language that can make a company's technology, business, and story easier to understand—and more memorable.

This project was designed and produced by AITPOP, with the complete process handled in-house from structural design and prototyping to production.

A gift box doesn't always have to be just a box.

For this design, we wanted the moment of opening the gift to feel like a little celebration itself. Inside, layers of paper unfold into a birthday party scene, with a beautiful cake, printed details, gold foil accents, and a “Happy 30th Birthday” message.

Even the inside of the lid becomes part of the story, featuring a personalized birthday party invitation.

As a designer, I enjoy creating products where the packaging becomes part of the gift—something people want to open, keep, and remember.

As a designer, I'm always looking for ways to turn everyday objects into experiences.

For this Shanghai-themed pop-up notebook, I imagined the city's skyline as the main act on a stage. When the notebook opens, landmarks such as the Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Shanghai Tower rise from the page, surrounded by theatrical curtains and vintage-inspired lights.

The result is both a functional notebook and a collectible piece of paper art.

What I enjoy most about this format is its versatility. The same concept can be customized for city souvenirs, destination merchandise, corporate gifts, brand campaigns, anniversaries, and special events—combining storytelling, practicality, and paper engineering in a single product.

As a designer, I'm always fascinated by how architecture and culture can be translated into paper.

This pop-up card features the iconic Yellow Crane Tower, surrounded by traditional Chinese-inspired paper-cut elements and layered scenery. When opened, the tower rises from the center of the card, creating a miniature cultural landmark that fits in the palm of your hand.

Projects like this show how paper engineering can transform a destination, a story, or a local symbol into something people can collect, share, and remember.

The same concept can be customized for city tourism programs, cultural attractions, museums, corporate events, destination marketing campaigns, invitation cards, and commemorative gifts.

Sometimes the most memorable souvenir isn't something you buy—it's a story that unfolds.

People often think of pop-up books as something small enough to hold in your hands.

But sometimes, we make them much bigger.

For this custom exhibition project, we created a giant pop-up book that measures over one meter wide when closed and expands to more than two meters when opened. Each spread was designed to present a different part of the client's business, turning traditional marketing content into a three-dimensional experience.

I still enjoy seeing people's reactions when a large-format structure like this opens for the first time. There's something special about watching information transform into a physical space that people can walk up to, explore, and remember.

As a designer, projects like this remind me that paper engineering isn't really about paper. It's about finding new ways to tell stories.

People often see the finished pop-up book, but not the process behind it.

For this custom 80th anniversary project, I started with a simple hand sketch. The client's building, anniversary graphics, and structural ideas were first drawn on paper, then carefully cut, folded, and assembled into an early prototype.

I still enjoy working this way because it helps me understand how a structure will move and unfold long before it reaches the production stage.

For me, this is where paper engineering becomes most interesting—the moment when an idea begins to take shape in three dimensions.

As a designer, one of the questions I often ask is:

How can fans experience an IP beyond the screen?

For this custom pop-up book project, we transformed beloved characters and memorable scenes from *The Legend of Hei* into a series of interactive paper-engineered spreads. As each page opens, the story unfolds in three dimensions, allowing fans to explore the world and characters from a completely new perspective.

What I enjoy most about projects like this is that a pop-up book isn't just merchandise—it's a storytelling medium. It combines art, structure, and interaction to create something fans will want to keep, display, and revisit.

For animation, film, gaming, and entertainment brands, custom pop-up books offer a unique way to extend an IP beyond digital content and create collectible products with lasting value.

One of my favorite things about paper engineering is discovering how much depth can be created inside a book.

For this custom project, we designed a tunnel book based on a concert scene. Using a multi-layer accordion structure, the book opens to reveal the singer on stage, the stage setting, the audience, and a bar scene unfolding layer by layer.

When fully opened, the book becomes a miniature world with a surprising sense of space.

For me, the challenge is always to make the scene visually rich while ensuring that every layer works as part of a functional, foldable structure.

This format can be developed for fan merchandise, IP collectibles, artist merchandise, and other creative projects.
