Dolly.

Imagine the evening news on September 25 leading with the Imagination Library buried in $9.25 donations.

That would be a first. Most of what that program does never makes a headline. A book shows up in a mailbox in some county nobody has heard of, a kid tears open the envelope, and nobody films it.

Dolly started it in 1995 for the children in Sevier County because her daddy never learned to read. Thirty years later, it mails a book a month to kids in five countries, and it still runs on donations.

A reporter standing outside the Dollywood Foundation, saying the donations would not stop coming, would be the only headline she ever wanted.

In memory of writer and environmentalist Wendell Berry. 🌿

Known for “The Peace of Wild Things,” “Sabbaths,” and so many other influential works, Berry spent his life advocating for healthy local communities and land-centric values, and against all forms of violence against one another and the natural world. His writing imparted a reverence for life and the interconnectedness of all beings. We’re grateful for the gifts and lessons he shared with the world.
