Baron's Beauties

Baron's Beauties Baron's Beauties sells toys and accessories at special events. Heave Away, Haul Away

Once upon a time, I was a pirate. Then I started to sell at events.

I belonged to a re-enactment group, and got my business license to make custom clothes for the other members. Hand made, hand fringed silk sashes which are hard to find and don’t have to be custom. And puppets, because I wanted to have something for all the age groups. Currently most of my time in my sewing room is spent trimming parasols. My store is no longer particularly piratical, but I still sell sashes and lots and lots of puppets.

PARASOLS:
The parasols are made for me in Thailand. The structure is like a market umbrella with a bamboo frame and a cotton cover made up of eight panels and a frill on top. Each parasol comes with a fabric case with a shoulder strap. Small parasols are 24" long with 24" diameter. Large parasols are 28 - 29" long with a 32" diameter. Extra large parasols are 45" long with a 37" diameter. The length is the measurement from the end of the handle to the end of the decorative finial. The diameter is the interior measurement across the parasol. Nota Bene: Parasols are hand made and dimensions are therefore not exact. Parasols come a variety of colors. Please refer to the list under plain parasols for current availability.

TRIMMED PARASOLS
I trim my parasols with beads, bobbles, fringe, lace, tassels, rhinestones and more. All trims, except the rhinestones and some appliqués, are sewn on. The price depends on the size, the trim, and the amount of work. Trimmed small parasols start at $35. Trimmed large parasols start at $50 There is no upper limit. .Most trimmed large parasols are in the $60-80 range. If you are looking for something specific, I am happy to work with you. Photographs of many of the parasols can be found in the photo albums here on the Baron's Beauties page.

SPECIAL
Harley Quinn: These are large black and bright red parti-colour parasols with two red diamonds on one black panel or two black diamonds on one red panel. $70

CUSTOM PARASOLS
I love to create a special parasol to match an outfit, add extra sparkle to a wedding or other occasion, or fulfill a dream. While I can only work off the bases I have, all trimmings are possible, including trimmings made from fabric you provide. If you wish to order a special base, it is technically possible to get a special cloth or size, but it takes a very long lead time and is only possible in quantity. I only get one shipment a year from Thailand. It is not possible to get a different structure or shape.

PLAIN PARASOLS
Parasols without trim are available to purchase in the following colors:

Small Parasols: Black, Cream, Lavender, Pink (Fuchsia), and Purple. $25

Large Parasols: Black, Brown, Cream, Green (Chartreuse), Lavender, Navy, Purple. $35

Large Parti-Colour Parasols: Red/Black and White/Navy $45

Large Eyelet Fabric Parasols: Cream, Black, Green (Bright). $45

Extra Large Parasols: Are only available in Cream. Once they are sold out, I will not be getting them again. I currently have one plain and two trimmed.

There are some trimmed parasols in the following colors that are not currently available to purchase plain: Large Burgundy, Royal Blue, Red, Turquoise. Large Lavender, Purple, and Pale Pink Eyelet.

Please contact me to double-check availability of specific colors.

Shipping cost is additional & determined by the post office. If I can box the parasol for shipping by re-using packing supplies, then there is no extra charge for that. If I have to purchase packing supplies, then that cost will be passed on.

Last Call For Extra Large Parasols!

Extra large parasols are 45" long with a 37" diameter.

The Extra Large Parasol were an experiment. Unfortunately, they didn't sell particularly well and shipping cost was high. I won't be re-ordering them.

There are two remaining:

• XL plain cream parasol $60.
• XL cream parasol with cream beads $85.

Happy Holidays! Here's an inspirational picture. Odviously I need to up my game 😼.

Black silk satin parasol, c 1880s. Courtesy Fashion Museum Bath

This is a black silk satin parasol lined with vivid purple silk and edged with embroidered black muslin in blue and gold flowers with a handle of natural gnarled wood from the 1880s.
The vivid purple used in this parasol could not have been achieved without the advances in science and chemical dyes made during the mid-19th century. In the 1850s a young chemistry student William Henry Perkin accidentally discovered the purple dye as a by-product when experimenting with artificial formulas to make anti-malarial drugs. In the 1860s and 70s ladies fashions were made using brilliant colours and there was a craze for purple.

Baron's Beauties will not be at Loscon this year. However, I personally am planning to be there and see friends.

I am also taking requests for purchases to be delivered at Loscon 47 "Celebrating the Science in Science Fiction & the Fan in Fantasy".

I will definitely be bringing what stock I have in puppets & soft pirate toys.

Life continues to be interesting. I am hoping that I will be able to do some events in 2022.

The dumpster fire that was 2020 was hard on everyone. My personal Armageddon started in 2019 and hasn't really ended. However, I am hoping to at least get back in the sewing room soon. Soonish. Some events are potentially on the schedule for later in the year. Assuming I am vaccinated, I'll hope to see everyone.

The Baron's Beauties booth in August 2018. Someday there will be shows again... Looking backwards, wishing I could see everyone again. Thanks to Suzanne Hagelin for the photo. Not visible, but much appreciated, the bit of extra non-selling space I got for Ginger. A few friends and customers also used it for a quick mental health break.
