Amat's latest kit from their popular Victory Models line of wooden ship model kits has finally arrived! This beautiful 1/64-scale wooden replica of the British Royal Navy brig Badger is now on sale and ready to ship.

This kit, designed for Amati by Chris Watton, builds to a nicely sized model, just about 23.5" long and 20.5" tall. It features double-planked plank-on-bulkhead constructions using limewood first layer, with fine walnut strips for the finishing layer.

This kit was designed for ease of construction. It's idea for those with a little bit of ship modeling experience who are ready for something more substantial, but don't want the size or complexity of a three masted, full-rigged ship. A dedicated, skilled beginner, might even be able to take on this model, which includes a new step-by-step, illustrated guide, plus the higly detailed plan sheets, which modelers have come to expect from Amati's Victory Models line of kit.

These kits are in stock and ready to ship. Only $249.99 plus applicable tax and shipping. https://www.agesofsail.com/product/hm-brig-badger-amati-1-64/

The latest wooden ship model kit from Amati, schedule to arrive in our shop in the next couple weeks, is Nelson's first command, HM Brig Badger. HM Brig Badger (Amati, 1:64)

The HM Brig Badger kit is an accurate scale model designed, developed, and produced by Amati in Italy. The kit was created on the basis of the original plans of the Badger, used as the primary reference for the hull, frames, and deck details. The model has been specifically designed for the beginner/intermediate modeler and therefore represents an excellent first or second experience in the plank-on-bulkhead construction technique, for those who wish to try a more substantial subject.

Brigs were generally employed for coastal reconnaissance missions and for controlling trade through the inspection and search of merchant ships. They were also used to es**rt convoys and to carry dispatches. The Badger was armed with a dozen 4-pounder carriage guns, and a number of swivel guns, all installed on the main deck. She had a displacement of just over 137 tons and a crew of 90 officers and sailors.

Nelson, recently promoted to the rank of Commander by Admiral Parker, was assigned to the Badger on 8 December 1777. His first orders, to ensure protection against American privateers along the southern coast of Jamaica. He carried out these orders with great effectiveness, intercepting and engaging numerous enemy vessels, further strengthening his growing reputation as a commander with extraordinary abilities. This is confirmed by his promotion to Post-Captain, which took place on 11 June 1779 while he was still in command of the Badger.

Report from the Local Ship Modeling Club

The South Bay Model Shipwrights have been active in the San Francisco Bay Area since the 1990s. The club is still active and recently posted highlights from its latest meeting in Santa Clara. We recognize a couple of the models described that were purchased from our shop here in San Lorenzo, CA. It's nice to see our kits enjoyed and shared with others. More importantly, we really enjoy seeing the members of the ship modeling community active and sharing their work with others.
