Happy Wednesday!

Love Everlasting is my current favorite comic. Every issue is the top of my read pile when it comes out. Every issue has been better than the last. It’s kind of a slow burn, in the best way, but this issue moves things to a new place. Once the first trade comes out for this book I think a lot more people will be talking about it. Why wait?

Afro Samurai is back in print! If you
caught the recent Star Wars Visions one shot you’ll want to check this one out too by creator Takashi Okazaki

Friday book two is finally here. What happens when kid detectives grow up and run into adult problems? This comic answers that question. I dig the description of this as “post YA” which is quite accurate, Brubaker and Martin make an excellent team

Vicious Circle teams Batman : Imposter writer Matt Tomlin with the ever fantastic Lee Bremejo drawing interiors for the first time in a while

Danger Street was a great first issue from Tom King and one of the absolute best artists in the business, Jorge Fornes. RIYL Vision, Mister Miracle, Rorschach, Strange Adventures, Omega Men

And wouldn’t you know it, Iron Man has a brand new 1 issue on the stands today.

Fifth Week of the month!

5th week is always weird for comics publishing. Many of the oddball one shots of the past came out specifically to fill a 5th week publishing slot.

DC seems to have mostly filled it up with Annuals and some anthology one shots. Check it out:

Wildstorm, which brought us Deathblow, Wild C.A.T.S., the Authority, Gen13 and more, celebrates 30 years with this one shot

Superman is back! It’s like he never left. Dig the first of many, many Spawn & DC character covers

Justice Society of America is back and weirder than ever. JSA was my favorite Geoff John’s book back in the day, glad to see it back

Blue Beetle is back! Jaime gets another series, and it has a Spanish version too.

Detective Comics annual provides some backstory for the current Ram V run

Nubia and the Justice League gives another chapter in Nubia’s series of miniseries. Time for her to get an ongoing I think

Nightwing’s Annual also provides some backstory for the title’s current big bad

Grifter Got Run Over by a Reindeer is this quater’s giant size anthology filled with delights

Dr. Strange Fall Sunrise is a gorgeous book. If you’re looking for something different and excellent here it is

Pleased to report that Ronin II was far more enjoyable than I expected. I haven’t been a huge fan of Frank Miller’s output in recent years but this one was a good read

Also in the “good read” category latest “Once Upon a Time at the End of the World”

Daredevil continues to be one of the best cape comics around

Department of Truth wraps up its current arc (and season?) with a doozy of a cliffhanger

Happy Wednesday!

Once again there is a wild number of really great books out. It’s a new golden era

Kroma is the gorgeous new series from Oblivion Song artist The art is above top notch but more importantly this project is built around color, used to great effect narratively and aesthetically

One of my favorite micro-genres in comics is the non-fiction works of I haven’t had a chance to read Accidental Czar : the Life and Lies of Vladimir Putin (with writer Andrew S. Weiss) yet because I want to savor it.

I have had a chance to read Demon Wars: Shield of Justice and she once again makes it look easy

I Hate Fairyland is back!

Harrow County writer Cullen Bunn hits us with the excellent new horror title Door to Door, Night by Night.
