Have you ever heard of Ember Days?
Ember Days are four sets of three days throughout the year traditionally set aside for prayer, fasting, and thanksgiving to God. They are connected with the changing of the seasons and have also been especially associated with praying for holy vocations.
The next Ember Days are:
Wednesday, September 16
Friday, September 18
Saturday, September 19
These are the Autumn Ember Days, traditionally observed after the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
Ember Days aren’t obligatory days of fasting and abstinence today, but they can be a beautiful voluntary devotion. We can use these days to pause from the busyness of life and intentionally turn our hearts toward God.
Pray for priests and seminarians.
Pray for religious vocations.
Give thanks for the blessings of the season.
Fast or make a small sacrifice according to your circumstances.
Spend a little extra time in prayer with your family.
At our store, we love discovering these beautiful Catholic traditions that help us bring our faith home and into our everyday lives—building up our domestic Church, one little practice at a time. 🧡
