A little fishing homework for our Wildher Co. ladies! π£π€
These are a few of the fish we may be going after on our trip. Our guide will help us decide what to target once we have our dates and location settled.
π Redfish
Look for the copper color and black spot near the tail. Texas anglersβ landed catches average about 23 inches and nearly 5 pounds.
Keep limit: 3 per person, 20β28 inches.
π Speckled trout
Silvery with dark spots, commonly around 1β3 pounds. Iβll be happy catching oneβand yes, weβre taking pictures.
Keep limit: 3 per person, 15β20 inches.
π Black drum
Recognizable by the little whiskers under their chin. Smaller βpuppy drumβ commonly weigh 1β10 pounds. Big bull drum often weigh 30β40 pounds. If someone catches one that big, weβre going to hear about it the entire weekend. π
Keep limit: 5 per person, 14β30 inches. One over 52 inches may count toward that limit; fish over 30 through 52 inches must be released.
π Sheepshead
Black-and-white stripes and teeth that deserve a closer look. Common adults measure around 14β18 inches and weigh 1β8 pounds.
Keep limit: 5 per person, at least 15 inches. No maximum length.
Before we go:
β’ Most anglers 17+ need a Texas fishing license with a saltwater endorsement.
β’ Legal size is based on total length, measured with the mouth closed and tail compressed.
β’ Special annual tags allow one redfish over 28 inches, plus one additional with a bonus tag. The same applies to speckled trout over 28 inches. Tagged fish are additional to ordinary limits.
β’ Trout over 20 through 28 inches must be released.
Keeping your catch is optional. Asking questions is encouraged. And whether youβve fished for years or need help with your first cast, Iβd love to have you join us.
Iβm looking forward to a day outside, meeting some new women, and hopefully having a few fish stories to bring home.
Whoβs comingβ¦ and which fish would you love to catch? π£
Texas recreational rules: September 2026βAugust 2027, per TPWD. Weβll confirm current regulations before our trip.
