My sister and I are having mild PTSD from when we had to evacuate in 2020.
To help keep our kids safe and not have to open our doors to go tend to the stand we decided to temporarily close up our farmstand Duke’s Farmstand today…
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
We thought it was a good idea to order fire retardant, because we live on farmland backing to forests. We also purchased digital air purifiers with the AQI readings — we had severe smoke damage in our home from the last fire.
We currently have family over in central Oregon near all the fires and many have been fighting for their ranches already.
If you live in an area at risk of wildfires be sure to check our stories for the links to be proactive.

Used our starter a little early, but with these summer temps hoping we’re 👌.
Let’s hope we stay cool today in the shed — wish us luck!

Every time we share this, the comments are filled with people telling us we’re doing it “wrong.” 😅
We intentionally use our starter after it’s peaked, when it’s nice and “soupy,” because we’ve found it gives us ultra-fluffy loaves and much more consistent proofing times.
It might not be the method everyone uses, but it’s the one that works best for us and our bakery.
👉 COMMENT “FLUFFY” if you’re willing to give it a try,and we’ll send you our free Starter Timing Cheat Sheet so you’ll know exactly when to use your starter for this method. 🫶

One thing about our tiny backyard bakery people never expect…is how HOT it gets in July. 🥵
People think baking all day sounds cozy…until it’s 90° outside and we’re running hot ovens in a tiny shed.
Once both ovens are going and we’re baking dozens of loaves, this little 14×24 shed heats up fast! We have fans running, a swamp cooler, the doors open whenever we can, and by the end of bake day we’re ready to jump in a cold river.
So, it’s caused us to get strategic — find out how in comments 👇
Would you survive a bake day in here?

One of the most soothing things is making focaccia…
And rewatching the videos is also equally as soothing.
Sweet dreams friends 😴

If it works…it works. And, it’s worked for us for years!
COMMENT “fluffy” to get a free sourdough starter cheat sheet so you know when the best time to use your starter is for those ultra fluffy loaves + more consistent proofing.
Trust us on this…we’ve helped thousands of people and we’d love keep helping more 🤞

Sometimes we forget how much can come out of one tiny little space. 💪
Our 14’×24’ bread shed may be small, but every week we’re able to make all of our sourdough bread and goods for our family, and to sell at our local farmstand 👉 located at my sister’s place down the road from me.
This shed is big enough to store all our supplies and ingredients (little loft up top for extra storage), plus a loveseat in the corner for breaks and for kids to work on their homeschooling work.
From sourdough bread, to bagels, pizza dough, cookies, scones, pies, and more—this little shed has become the heart of our microbakery, and we we’re so grateful we have it!
Proof that you don’t need a huge commercial kitchen to chase a big dream. ✨
What other things would you like to see us make in our little microbakery bread shed? We’d love more ideas to stock our farmstand for our amazing community each week!

Listened to one of our childhood favorites the other day (Doo W*p 4life ✌️) and it so resonated with all we’re doing:
“Plant a seed that flowers when it grows,
Plant a rose.
Keep planting to find out which one grows,
That’s a secret no one knows.”
🤎✨🌼

We couldn’t be more grateful for the outpouring of love and support for our little farmstand…
Every week we wonder if we’ll sell everything we make, and every week we’re just BLOWN AWAY!!
We’ve even been taking more breaks and closing up the stand for a week at a time — then become a bit scared when we open the farmstand back up and stock the stand with so much sourdough bread, goods, and desserts…thinking no one will come and that they probably forgot about us with being closed for a week.
But then our community SHOWS UP! And it’s an absolute amazing thing and fills our heart and soul with all the good. This is how we show and spread positivity in our corner of the world — thank you for letting us continue to do it. This is what it’s all about. 🥹🤎✌️🌲✨
