This is what it actually takes to restage an antique booth. Part 2: A Whole New Entrance.

George, the owner of Rustique Antiques in Sanford, NC, built this entrance for my booth by hand from reclaimed pieces, stained glass windows included. His vision is a neighborhood of storefronts, each with its own personality. For The Queen's Cabinet, that meant a palace facade. The gold royal arms he found in England. I painted the rest to look like Portland stone, the limestone on the front of Buckingham Palace.

Come see it in person at Rustique.

This is what it actually takes to restage an antique booth. Part 1: Finding the Hero Pieces.

I'm Kirsten. I opened my first booth at Rustique Antiques in Sanford, NC last November, and it's getting a complete restage this fall. These three made the cut: an Empire slant-front secretary in flame mahogany, a lyre-base drop leaf table, and a Victorian walnut cabinet with a period mirror. All cleaned and revived with my mom, never stripped. You'll be able to see them in person once the new booth is finished.

What's the one thing you'd never do to an original finish?

Liberty Antiques Festival is back and what a perfect weekend for it! Thirty-five years in, and this was its first fall at the new farm in Ramseur. Spent the day in the field with my mom, finding what goes back to my antiques booth at Rustique in Sanford. What are you hunting for? I'll keep an eye out.

First time at the Replacements yard sale. Mom and I drove up not knowing what we were walking into.

True: picked clean by 10am. We didnโ€™t leave with a wagon full, but a couple of quiet pieces earned the drive, including transferware Iโ€™d have paid three times as much for anywhere else.

Lesson for next year. Headed to the booth once theyโ€™re cleaned up.

DM if you want first look. Or find us at Rustique in Sanford.

Replacements Ltd holds this yard sale every other year. Imperfect china and crystal, $20 for one wagon, however much you can fit in it.

My mom and I got in line early, but pickers load up wagons FAST - so timing for this event is important (now we know).

We came for transferware and left with a few good finds. Definitely coming back to the showroom for a longer visit.

Quadruple plate was a real grade, roughly four times the silver of ordinary plating. What it never had was a standard behind it, or anyone inspecting. Wm. A. Rogers, New York, around 1900. Four pieces, one pattern number on every base, and a family letter cut by hand into something that was never solid silver.

One from the Cabinet. The Queen's Cabinet, Booth 88, Rustique Antiques, Sanford NC.

Five things to look at before you buy an antique Staffordshire dog.

1. The hole in the back. The dog is hollow, and trapped air has to escape in the kiln.

2. The base. Pressed into a mould by hand, so the rim stays rough.

3. The back. Nearly plain. They sat against a wall.

4. The eyes. Most painted, some glass.

5. The pair. A real pair faces inward.

There's no maker's mark on these and there never was. They were made in volume for ordinary mantelpieces, not signed for collectors, and they've been copied ever since.

These three sets came from a shop in Windsor and they live at my house, not in the booth. But there's English porcelain, transferware and silverplate at Booth 88 at Rustique Antiques And Collectables in Sanford, open seven days.

A photograph case from the 1850s, made of shellac and wood fiber pressed into a mold. One of the first plastics anybody ever made.

These are usually called Union cases. People often call the material gutta percha, which is a long-running mix-up.

Holmes, Booth and Haydens of Waterbury, Connecticut made it, and their printed paper label is still glued inside. The hinges still work, which most of these no longer do.

The young man is in a dark coat and vest with a soft neckcloth at his throat. No uniform. He sat for this around 1860.

Booth 88 got a full rebuild this week. Twenty-one new pieces went in, including Coalport bon bon dishes, a four-piece Wm. A. Rogers coffee service, a Paragon creamer and sugar made for the 1939 royal visit, and a cased ambrotype from the 1850s.
