Tapes have a top shelf life of 10 years. After this, deterioration kicks in. Many older A/V collections are a ticking time bomb and can literally get wiped out. We too have been backing up all our DATs, VHS, SVHS, Betacam sp, 3/4" videos masters etc for the last three months! We feel that there is an urgent need to archive all the older A/V formats such as all your old VHS, S-VHS, Beta, Beta sp, Digital 8, LPs, Cassettes, Reel-to-Reel tapes ADAT tapes etc. to the newer Digital formats such as CD, DVD, HD or even solid state drives.
