Join us for HGP First Friday: August Gathering at the Homeless Garden Project Store for an evening of local art, delicious food, and community.

We’re excited to feature the artwork of Pegatha Hughes, whose acrylic paintings draw inspiration from family, flowers, and landscapes. After more than thirty years painting outdoor landscapes in watercolor and acrylic, Pegatha now creates vibrant acrylic works inspired by her own photographs. She lives in Scotts Valley with her husband, Paul.

Enjoy complimentary tastings from Taste of the Levant, a Santa Cruz-based business offering handcrafted, small-batch Mediterranean flavors inspired by their heritage.

While you’re here, explore the Homeless Garden Project’s handcrafted products, shop unique goods from local artists and makers, and learn more about our mission to provide job training and support for people experiencing homelessness.

Whether you’re stopping in to admire local artwork, sample delicious food, or connect with the community, we hope you’ll join us for a relaxing summer evening.

Marian, of Alicia and her Mom, is relatively new to pottery and sculpture. Throughout her life she tried many different types of artistic endeavors, with her heart settling peacefully 3 years ago on manipulating clay into little creations. Bringing her things to the Homeless Garden Project Store resonated deeply for her as she is a retired social worker who, for years, supported the Santa Clara county homeless population find their way back to safety and resiliency.

Alicia, Marian’s daughter, is still learning how to be creative with clay but says she loves spending time with her mom. When she’s not at her mom’s house making pots, and what-nots, she’s a full-time single mother of a pre-teen girl and a caregiver for several families in Santa Cruz.

Marian and Alicia are loving this new adventure they’re on together and hope you’ll love the fun little things they’re making for the Homeless Garden Project store.
