My eyes just do not want to stay open today! I snoozed my alarm longer than usual, moved a little slower than normal, and even my regular caffeine fix didn’t shake off this heavy feeling. 😴
Lately, I’ve been diving deep into nutrition, women’s health, and hormonal cycles, and I’m finally starting to understand something I always “knew” but never truly grasped: how our hormones affect our energy levels.
You know those days when you feel high energy, and others when you’re dragging? I’ve ignored those dips for too long, pushing through them and convincing myself I was just lazy or out of shape. It turns out our bodies are trying to tell us something, and learning to listen has been a game-changer.
So, on days when I’m feeling a little extra lacking in the energy department, I recognize that it’s necessary to shift my approach. Instead of forcing myself into that high-intensity workout or scrambling to tackle everything on my to-do list, I focus on tasks I can do while sitting—like writing or paying bills—and allow myself those precious breaks. Hitting the hay a little earlier has become a new norm, too, because, let’s be honest, my body is asking for it!
I do have to remind myself that these “low energy” days don’t mean I’m not productive (thanks, Enneagram 1 voice!). When my next high-energy day rolls around, I know I’ll catch up, and the things I didn’t get to will still be there, patiently waiting for me. No harm done!
I can’t help but wonder why it took me until my 30s to learn these lessons. Instead of dwelling on the past, I’m grateful that conversations around this are becoming more common. I want my daughters to learn these things early so they can sidestep the challenges I faced.
Do you track your cycle and monitor your energy levels? My first real exposure to this idea was through .mindypelz book, ‘Fast Like a Girl’, and I’m excited to read ‘Hormone Intelligence’ by .avivaromm next! Have you read either of these? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
