✨ Meet the Maker: Emil Bainhardt ✨
This week we're excited to introduce fine artist Emil Bainhardt, whose beautiful paintings have been gracing the walls of our Novato store since we first opened our doors a year ago. Many of his pieces have already found their way into new homes, and we're honored to continue showcasing his work.
Born in what is now Croatia and raised in Sacramento, Emil has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember. After receiving a scholarship to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, he continued his studies at the Schuler School of Fine Art in Baltimore, where he deepened his appreciation for the traditional techniques of the Old Masters.
Before becoming a full-time artist, Emil worked for many years as a home care physical therapist in West Marin. Traveling the back roads each day immersed him in the beauty of Northern California's wetlands, towering redwoods, rugged coastline, and charming small towns—landscapes that continue to inspire his paintings today.
For Emil, painting is more than a profession; it's an extension of who he is and a lifelong artistic journey that continues to evolve.
We invite you to stop by our Novato store to experience Emil's work in person. There's something truly special about seeing the depth, color, and light of his paintings up close.

One year ago today, we were handed the keys to our Novato space. 🗝️
Armed with a bottle of champagne left in congratulations by the former occupant, Mantra Wines, food from our wonderful neighbors at Finnegan's, and plenty of excitement (and a little nervous energy!), we got to work unloading furniture and transforming an empty space into what would become Made Local Marketplace Novato.
It's hard to believe how much has happened in just one year. We've welcomed incredible makers, met so many wonderful customers, hosted workshops and events, and become part of the amazing downtown Novato community. We couldn't have done it without all of you.
Please join us next Saturday, August 8, as we celebrate our first anniversary! We'll have Spin-the-Wheel of gratutude giveaways, complimentary floral gifts while supplies last, bubbles/mocktails, and more as we celebrate a wonderful first year and look ahead to many more.

This week we're excited to introduce Carole Balala of Plum Blossom Farm, a small fiber farm in Sebastopol where every sheep is treated with kindness and has a forever home.
Carole started Plum Blossom Farm with a simple but meaningful mission: to create value from wool without asking her animals to provide anything more than their fleece. That philosophy continues to guide everything she makes.
Using wool from her own flock—animals she knows by name and cares for every day—Carole handcrafts beautiful felted soaps and other wool creations. Each felted soap is a little piece of the farm, combining natural wool with handcrafted soap to create a gentle exfoliating washcloth that lasts for the life of the bar. Once the soap is gone, the felted wool can continue to be used or composted, making it both beautiful and practical.
We're proud to feature Carole's work at Made Local Marketplace and love supporting makers whose craftsmanship is rooted in sustainability, compassion, and a genuine connection to the land.
