This week we're introducing Kim Murphey, the Rohnert Park artist behind Mindful Confetti, whose colorful resin creations can be found at both Made Local Marketplace Santa Rosa and Novato.
Kim describes much of what she makes as “functional art”—and we think that's the perfect way to put it.
She brings little pieces of the natural world into her work: dried flowers, seashells, sand, tumbled crystals, pebbles and tiny pieces of driftwood, preserving them in resin to create trays, bowls, boxes, bookends and more. 🌿🐚
Each piece can be put to work around your home or simply displayed and enjoyed as art.
And we especially love Kim's wonderfully simple explanation for why she does it:
“Creating things makes me happy.” ❤️
We think you can see a little of that happiness in every piece.

Our workshop season is almost over—and if you've been meaning to take a class with us, now's the time!

We've just added the final workshops to our calendar, taking us through the first weekend in November. After that, we'll be taking a break for the winter since our workshop spaces are outdoors, and we'll start up again in the spring.

So we're giving you one more nudge to take a look at the calendar and come make something with us!

A few especially popular workshops even have some unexpected openings:

✨ Mosaic Workshop — This one sold out quickly, but we've had a few cancellations for next week's class, which means a few lucky people can still get in.

🌿 Bundle Dyeing with Slow Digz — Another favorite with just a couple of spaces remaining! Lisa Rogers of Slow Digz was just featured in Sonoma Magazine, so it's a particularly fun time to come learn from her(link to article (https://www.sonomamag.com/slowdigz-founder-creates-eco-fashion-from-her-flourishing-sebastopol-microgarden/) ).

And we've added more classes to round out the season, culminating with our Holiday Herbal Gift-Making Workshop the first weekend in November.

🌿 Meet the Maker: Erin Anderson of Erin Rose Prints 🌿

This week we're introducing Erin Anderson, the artist and printmaker behind Erin Rose Prints, whose nature-inspired work can be found at both our Santa Rosa and Novato stores.

Based in Occidental, Erin creates her own original designs inspired by the awe and wonder she finds in the natural world around her, then screen-prints them onto T-shirts, tea towels, hats, paper goods and more.

But here's something you might not guess from looking at her work: Erin is also a trained welder! She uses those building skills to make much of her own screen-printing equipment. We love that her creative process includes not only making the art, but actually making some of the tools she uses to create it. ❤️

Erin earned her BA in Art from Sonoma State in 2021 and says she's still learning every day—experimenting, designing and playing with new techniques.

Her work feels wonderfully connected to this place we call home—plants, animals and the natural beauty of Northern California translated into designs you can wear, use and enjoy every day.
