For all of you who are glad Stanroy Music Center is still alive & well on 4th Street in Downtown Santa Rosa, please read this, pause for a moment, and give thanks to this man!
Wayne Anderson was VP of Tupper & Reed Music in Berkeley since 1969, eleven years before they purchased Stanroy from Stan Goldman. With the inevitable challenges brought about by a new marketplace called "The Internet" and a winnowing of businesses around them on Shattuck Avenue, Tupper & Reed closed its doors in 2005, six months shy of its centennial. And as those marketplace changes began to affect Stanroy, rather than close the store as T&R's former CEO advised him to do, Wayne found us a smaller location a block away, and kept us alive using money out of his own pocket as needed. He did so for the next 6 years until Dustin & I were able to purchase the store in 2013.
So, when we celebrate 80 years on 4th Street in February 2027, we will again ask you who are glad we're still here to please remember Wayne Anderson (3/5/1945 - 9/3/2026) with undying gratitude. 💜
