Rainbow (iridescent) hematite. Discovered at Andrade Mine, near João Monlevade, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This specimen measures about 5" x 9" and is one of very few remaining from a one time extraction. The iridescence is caused by a minute mineral growing on the hematite.

Monday, August 31st, today's featured fossil: the trilobite, one of the oldest fossils on earth. One of the earliest arthropods, they survived for nearly 270 million years, evolving into approximately 22,000 species. The final extinction came at the end of the Permian Mass Extinction Event some 252 million years ago. Our specimens are plaques which measure 18" x 22" and stand 23". These are sold as a pair, and will add to any home or office decor.
