I asked AI what I would look like in the 80s and wouldn’t you know that crazy little robot marched itself out to my garage, dug through Rubbermaid bins filled with pieces of paper folded into footballs, cassette tapes, cabbage patch dolls and poorly written poetry from my teen-angst era and then pulled out this picture of a child who looks to probably have chocolate smeared all over her face.

This is what my children refer to as the “olden days.” 🫠

Hello my fellow introverts, politically-curious people, and anyone who has ever been like me and thought, “I’d totally like to get involved, but I have absolutely no idea what the heck I should do” — this one is for you!

Next Saturday, September 19 from 6:30–8PM, we’re hosting a volunteer kickoff to support Angie Nixon for U.S. Senate 📣

This is a very low-pressure introduction to what volunteering on a campaign can actually look like.

You can come meet other local people, learn how canvassing works, hear from people who have actually done it, get an intro to virtual phone banking, help prep campaign materials, and ask all the questions you’ve been too nervous to ask.

And no, showing up does NOT mean someone is immediately handing you a clipboard and sending you alone into a neighborhood.

If knocking on doors or calling strangers sounds mildly terrifying, you are very much not alone. Come learn what the options are, meet some people, have a snack, and figure out which way you'd feel comfortable getting involved.

There will also be light refreshments, and attendees can make a pink “Angie 4 FL” bracelet with a campaign donation. If I can get my act together there will also be mini pink moss terrariums you can make for donation too!

Seriously though, it's gross. Any business that get's nominated gets hounded for advertising dollars, even if they didn't ask to be nominated. Every person who votes has to give up a bunch of personal data.

I'm going to start my own community awards, btw. It'll be free and you won't have to give me all your data. Just vote for your favorite businesses and celebrate them. Because they're awesome and they deserve it. Not because they were able to front a bunch of $$$. Sounds cool huh?

This pay to play crap is annoying, and tis the season for small business owners to get hounded by advertising people trying to get me to pay $5k so I can get a cool sticker to put on my door. To me that win means nothing if you spend thousands of dollars on ads to get people to vote for you.

There is a reason I rarely promote these, and don't care if I get nominated or not. Stay tuned for my own awards, which may just be cool stickers for an award I made up. You're welcome.
