So just when you think you seen it all this happens. I'm at the ramp done for the day. I back my trailer into the water. Now I have to walk a little way to fire up the boat, untie it and come around to my trailer. As I come around the three docks I notice something odd. Yep, someone was trying to load their boat on my trailer. As I'm smiling I holler hey sir that's not your trailer. He can't hear me so the people in the slot beside me get his attention and he looks around. By this point he's halfway up my trailer. I holler again and he recognizes something isn't right. Then eases back out and gives me a nod. I'm laughing but realize the gentleman is about 80. So he moves and the people in the slot next to me are laughing. Im laughing and the lady says I have never seen that before. I say me either but one day I will be old and may happen to me. She straightens up and says. Your right we shouldn't laugh as I crack up and say. Ohhh, we should definitely be laughing. Just with respect. As we broke out again in laughter. Lol. Have a great day my friends. You can't make this stuff up.

Public service announcement. Many of you book fishing charters via booking agents. Although that works well for home rentals and plane tickets it doesn't work well for fishing charters. So here's how it works. You do an internet search, then click on the first thing that shows up and wow there are 20 captains on the page. You click the one at the top and wow look at those prices so you start booking. Then all of a sudden you have a 10% to 30% deposit. You don't realize that you just paid a company in Dubai or other parts of the world which actually comes out of the captains pocket. Yep, 30% of $400 is a lot of money. Yes, that's correct. These companies are leaches on our industry. Also, you may not get the trip you want because you got excited and didn't do your research. Fact is these companies are costing all captains money as it increases our cost of advertising. The answer is simple. Don't book through them. Call the captain directly. If you find yourself on one of those sites just write down the captains name and charter name. Then search them directly. You will actually get to talk to the guy that's going to take you on his boat and can answer all your questions. The booking companies block you from communicating directly with us though their site. Once your hooked and booked by them there's no way out. Oh and if we try to contact you outside of their platform we get punished. I realize they have a business to run but not at my expense. I don't use any of those companies anymore. Some of my friends do either due to lack of resources or many other reasons. I don't fault them for that. We all have to feed our families. All I'm saying is do them and me a favor and take the time to call directly. We are glad to speak with you and answer all your questions. You basically get to meet your Captain before you go. That helps us both. It creates a level of trust and companionship. That's what fishing is about. Having fun, telling stories and catching fish while making amazing memories. The guy in Dubai or other parts of the world should not get to take a piece of that.

To all you idiots out there telling people fishing isn't any good right now because of red tide. Shut up!! You don't know what your talking about. Call your Captain people. They fish every day and know what's going on. And for those of you not on the water maybe you should refrain from speaking for us that do fish every day.

Good afternoon friends. Yesterday I wrote about questions/expectstions we get asked as captains. It was a sarcastic post by me to have a laugh after a difficult day. If you took it differently that's unfortunate, but there is a message in it. That message is, fishing charters are like planes and plane tickets. There are all shapes and sizes. They fly to may destinations all around the world. Each flight is unique in its own way even though they are all planes. You wouldn't buy a plane ticket to hawaii if you wanted to go to Mexico. Captains all over the world work really hard to catch you fish and fulfill your goals but if we leave the dock/airport and we don't have a clear understanding of where we are going beforehand(expectations) then you may end up on a plane to south africa when you ment to go to the bahamas. Then your asking the pilot to turn around but it's to late. Just take the time before the trip. Ask lots of questions before the trip. Know what your getting into before you book so that we can help you have a really great time. It's not fun for either of us when their is little that can be done to fix it. I will do my best to explain my trips as clearly as possible and so will most captains. We do truly appreciate your business and want to make the best memories we can for you. And if you end up on that trip to south africa try to enjoy it. Some of the coolest experiences I've had in life were not planned.

What a great spring we have had fishing. Busy, busy, busy.

Here are the top 10 points of interest about fishing in Sarasota for this week based on questions of the week from clients.

10. No we don't catch mahi in Sarasota bay.

9. Yes you may catch a shark but not on demand.

8. No sarasota bay is not 300 feet deep.

7. No you can't catch a northern pike in saltwater.

6. Catching large catfish in your local river does not make you a saltwater expert. And no we don't eat saltwater catfish.

5. Just because you brought a yeti 110 does not mean we are going to fill it.

4. Contrary to popular belief all fish are not big. As a matter of fact most fish are not big.

3. Just because we haven't caught a fish in five minutes does not mean the fish stopped biting and no we aren't moving yet.

2. I will let you know if the fish is keepable. You don't need to ask five hundred times.

1. Contrary to popular belief the the look of the boat does not catch fish. You do and if your skills suck it's you not the boat.

No your five year old can't fish with my $200 fishing rod and reel by himself.
