Finally finished the next whip in the pile of incomplete prototypes. This one is definitely a chungus, and was a bit overkill in a number of ways! Admittedly though this was used as a practice piece to experiment with different construction and braiding methods. It ended up pretty heavy at right around 1.5kg, but it flows really well and is extremely loud.

Construction: Uses an 8" long 1/4" steel rod as the handle core, a 24" shotbag for the whip core, 3 braided bellies with bolsters made from upholstery vinyl between each layer, 30 strand overlay with 6 norse runes patterned into the handle, 8pt fall hitch, 4 strand fall into tapered twist, 11 strand wrist loop, and 3 color heel knot with silver pineapple accent.

This is the project that renewed my enjoyment in the whipmaking craft, and was made while attending the Afterburn festival this past Nov. It is a 16 strand 3ft snake whip in an even striped pattern consisting of white and 2 shades of purple. It's made using a shot-bag core, 1 braided belly, 6pt fall hitch, and 9 strand wrist loop. Though this may be the most conservative of the whips I've made recently, it was the perfect starting point for what developed from it.

Don't know how many people will actually see this since the page has been dark about a half-dozen years, but the creativity bug has bitten and a number of prototype whips have been made over the past couple months to test out some new materials and construction methods. A few out there might even recognize one of the items in the photo as it was originally started over 10yrs ago! All of these just need the final decorative knots, and a detailed post about each will be done as they are completed.

Contact fire staff with 2 1/2" diameter wicks hand sewn with kevlar thread, two color spiral grip, reflective markers for center and grip ends, and holographic stars wrapped with silicone between grip and wicks. Perfectly balanced on the center mark with weighted ends for optimal flow.

New puppyhammer/oxbow meteor with poi conversion modular set, utilizing blue Dragon Rope from Dark Monk and clear pill-nodes and pom grips from Lanternsmith. The heads are large and hold a lot of fuel for longer burn times, constructed using a 6-strand Inverted Isis braid with a signature locking spiral finishing knot at the bottom.

A new Zip-Poi completed for a custom order. Turks-head knot used for the round head with a double flared aluminum tube through the core for better movement of the steel cable. Rubberized coating on the crimped hardware with swivels on each end and handmade soft leather double loop handles.

Just finished these mini gorilla fists for a custom order. They have an excellent weight to them and should have a nice burn time. Made from 3/4" wick and the chain is attached directly to the core knot.

New Zip-Poi prototype with turks-head wick. Can't wait to light this baby up and see what kind of flow I can get going with it.

The completed version of the 18" Fire Snakes I make. This is how I was originally intending to make the ones pictured in the previous post, but I was having trouble locating the rope thimbles for the connection point and ran out of length on the wick I was using before being able to complete the finishing knot at the bottom.
