Gallant Fox lost to Jim Dandy, who had 100-1 odds, Secretariat lost to a horse named Onion in the Whitney Stakes after winning the Triple Crown. eat Man o’War. Winning 20 of his 21 races Man o’War lost to Upset at Saratoga in the 1919 Sanford Stakes. In Saratoga the smart bet is always “The Dark Horse”.
