I recently spent some time testing various hook sizes/shapes for the 1/4 oz. and 3/8 oz. sizes with the intent on settling on some options for sale. I especially like the 1/4 oz. 2/0 with the micro barb as it has proven to hook up well and yet releases easier.

Smallmouth are still on their summer high. 1/4 oz. hot pink splash. I was impressed with the test of the Mustad 2/0 Micro Barb hook - solid hook-ups and easy release. It might be coming as a hook option!

A 12' Smallmouth with teeth marks down it's side. It's rumored that in some river systems this could be bait ...

I've heard tell of a 19" smallmouth reeled in sideways with a Muskie attached like a dog bites a bone! I once watched a Muskie coming after a18" smallmouth near shore on a stringer.

We have caught some nice Muskie and Northern on the 1/8 oz. jigs but I added stronger hook options because the large fish will pull the standard weight hooks. In pike water it's also advisable to use a wire leader.

I'll fish the larger sizes if I'm specifically looking for pike.

Got wet this AM wading a local stretch of the Milwaukee River. Smallmouth were abundant with a good number into the fun...

Got wet this AM wading a local stretch of the Milwaukee River. Smallmouth were abundant with a good number into the fun range (well ... they are all fun) and the largest at 16". The ridiculously abundant 'little guy' category included 3 small northern. The hot jig was a 1/8 oz. #4 forged Red Splash with a 2" grub in Firetiger color.

The tune set a good rhythm for the morning.

Stream flow at Cedarburg was 245 cfs and water conditions were good for August but the weeds are getting thick in the shallow water.

It was a real pleasure to not take the phone along or try to take pictures. I would encourage anyone trying to get away for fishing leave the technology at home and enjoy the moment.

A fun outing to a nearby hole. The water was higher than I care to wade. The bite was aggressive on a newly made pearl/candy red 1/8 oz. jig. I don't have the shop up and running yet but that's OK.
