I’ve been thinking a lot about TIME.

How precious it is.
How progress shows up like a miracle by dedicating just a little bit of it each day to a single task.
How it’s taken for granted and wasted without even realizing it.

Time is fleeting! Don’t waste it.

This summer, my mom moved out of her house of 45 years, and my childhood home is officially on the market. It’s been an emotional transition, but I’m so happy to see her start this new chapter on her own terms. Earlier this year, I created this artwork of the beautiful live oak in her backyard unknowingly of the changes about to unfold. I spent my childhood in this tree and have so many fond memories playing in the backyard. I’ve decided to keep this original artwork for myself, but will have prints available in my next website update! Thank you, Savannah, for showing up to First Friday last night! I met so many new people and had so many great conversations about art and birds. I think my favorite comment last night was someone who walked in a said they feel so calm in my space. That’s exactly the energy I’m looking to create. I talked to many of you about the location of my inspiration for all the birds I’m creating, which is a bird rookery in Port Royal, SC. I’ve visited many times this past spring and the experience has stuck with me all summer. If I could, I would visit there everyday. It’s so relaxing and so fun to watch the birds in their nests and the community they have built together. Anyway, here is a video to show how expansive and awesome it is! Endless inspiration, honestly. Magical!

After finishing a very tedious artwork that took me almost a month to complete for a show in October (more on that later), I decided to do some quicker studies in acrylic on paper. I’m trying to gain more control over the medium and color mixing, and I’ve got to say I’m having so much fun loosening up a little.

Birds still continue to be my focus for the moment and I’m not sorry about it.😜

This is also your reminder about First Friday ARTS Southeast from 5-9pm this week. I’ll be bringing some of these studies with me. Stop by, say hello, and let’s talk art! 💞 (Studio 4)

There is something about a wolf’s howl that gets me every time. It is not a cry for help. It is a release. There is no filter in it, no apology, no pause to check if the room feels safe enough to be that loud.

That is the energy behind this piece. The howl is the wolf speaking its truth straight into the dark, and it does not flinch. It claims the night instead of fearing it. It is wild and completely unbothered by what anyone else thinks. But underneath all that confidence, there is still a quiet ache. There is a search for the pack, for connection, for somewhere to finally belong. Even the boldest voice is still listening for something to howl back.

This one is now available. Send me a DM for details.

No matter what I do, I never feel caught up. I’m learning to let things take longer than I want them to, and to be ok with that. Life moves fast, and I don’t want to look back with regrets. So I’m trying to take it one day at a time and actually live in it. I work on what I can and let the slow crawl of progress happen at its own pace.

That mindset is exactly why I’ve made so many trips this spring to a bird rookery in South Carolina. It’s right on the way to my hometown of Charleston, so it’s become my favorite mid-trip stop.

I’ve been wanting to share this one for a while. It’s my largest painting yet, and honestly, one of the most fun I’ve worked on.

“Rookery in the Spring: A Season of Togetherness”
Acrylic on canvas, 40” x 30”

Still available and on display on my wall in the Savannah City Market Mary Carol Kenney

This piece came from a visit to the bird rookery in Port Royal, SC, right in the middle of mating season. Great Egrets are courting, building nests, settling in together. Watching them care for each other and their nests reminded me that even out in the wild, we’re stronger together. The soft, swirling blue background is meant to feel calm and still, like that quiet moment when everything settles, and you focus on what matters: nurturing new life and each other.

My two happy places: my studio and my garden!

My studio is where I start my day with coffee in hand. It’s where I create every morning. I love this space I’ve created for myself. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself….my sacred space and nonnegotiable.

My garden keeps me connected to nature, and that connection is what inspires my art. When I walk outside, something lifts within me. I cannot quite explain it, but I think you know what I mean.
