A wilted plant is thirsty… right? Not necessarily.

Wilting can be your plant’s way of telling you several different things, including too much water, too little water, heat stress, transplant shock or problems with the roots.

That’s why automatically reaching for the hose can sometimes make the problem worse.

Before watering, check the soil a few inches below the surface. If it’s still wet, your plant may be trying to tell you something else.

Plants can’t talk, but they’re pretty good at leaving clues.
