Bee Venom Therapy: I spent 46 years in the healthcare industry, and I must say this type of therapy scares me. It is something we would never, ever do here.
A few years ago, I had a systemic reaction to a bee sting. I had been working side by side with John for years. Now, I am not talking about a localized reaction where the area becomes swollen and red. I am talking about a reaction where your entire body becomes affected. I became so intensely itchy everywhere within 10 minutes of the 2 stings that I ran up to the house and popped some Benadryl. Fortunately, it worked within 15 minutes. I have been stung twice since then with no systemic reaction. I am prepared.
Here's the thing: Anyone, anywhere can have a systemic/anaphylactic reaction to anything. And believe me, I was used to getting stung over the years.
So if you are a beekeeper considering providing this therapy, you better have some doggone good liabilty insurance. And if you are an individual wanting this therapy, think twice. It can be dangerous.

I started the course this morning as growing herbs has always been a passion of mind, and then to add honey, well, it is just the best of both worlds.

We have our cinnamon creamed honey available now at Hippies Modern Studio in Scenery Hill, at 84 Agway, and at Gabby Market in Washington. We are making a couple of batches per week but it has to spend time in refrigeration to set up. Soon the cinnamon and lemon will be plentiful at all of the sites we sell at.
I will be trying other flavors, but not right now. We have to focus supplying the 2 varieties we have first. Our thanks to the businesses for their support!

Dwight Wells was our speaker last night for our beekeeper's meeting. He has been a mentor for us over the years, and packs so much information in his talks. You always have to go back and review what he said a few times.
He is all about healthy bee colonies from nutrition to thermoregulation and sizes of hives to feeding to swarm management. He startles you sometimes with his bold statements but they are so on point.
He was born in 1940 and is still highly active in his projects working with Purdue, Texas A & M and Penn State.
He talked about the 62% yearly loss of commercial hives, the disappointment in pesticide influence and in packaged bees.
He should be headlining in every conference. He tells it like it is and beekeepers need to hear it!
We will always be indebted to him and our bees have thrived because of him.

Last year, the October Sky asters and the perennial white begonias were nothing more than nubs on the ground. This year, the fencing made all of the difference and the pollinators could not be happier.
We will take down the fencing soon and store it in the shed until spring. It is nice to have plants covering the blooming seasons providing the bees with a steady selection of nourishmemt. The magic number is 5 different species.
