At the intersection of traditional heritage and contemporary studio pottery, you’ll find the work of David Stuempfle.

Originally from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, David has called Seagrove home for over 20 years, drawing inspiration from extensive travels across Europe and Asia, as well as historic American pottery. His world-renowned work has earned him prestigious honors—including a US/Japan Creative Artists Fellowship—and can be found in collections at the Mint Museum of Art and the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park Museum in Japan.

Visit his home studio in the Westmoore area of Seagrove for an outdoor kiln opening or schedule a private visit by appointment.

This came vase came out of my last wood firing. It was made out of clay I dug from land , where potters have gathered clay for hundreds years . There is a long history of potters using this clay beginning with Native peoples . I have found pot shards dating back to the Woodland period right in front our studio in Whynot North Carolina.

Founded in 1917, by Jacques and Juliana Busbee, Jugtown Pottery has a rich and historic place in Seagrove pottery history. For over a century, the pots and wares produced by Jugtown reflect the aesthetic started by the Busbee's that has secured its reputation for well-designed and highly sought-after pieces.

In 1983, Vernon and Pam Owens purchased Jugtown. Along with their children, Travis and Baylee, the Owens family carries on their own 150-years of family traditions in clay. Processing their local hand-dug clay and the use of traditional and new glazes, it is no wonder that Jugtown Pottery pieces are enjoyed in collections worldwide.

Jugtown Pottery is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 8:30am-5:00pm. They are located at 330 Jugtown Road, Seagrove, NC 27341. If you have questions, you can call, 910-464-3266, during business hours.
